beyond our ken
I stayed there about 7 years ago, for one night in March. The heat in the room was ubearable and opening the window wasn't an option as you could hear the night staff talking as they enjoyed their fags at the back door

Anyway, it's no' a terminus any more, no services terminate there now. In the olden days… Rid buses went from toon up to Fairway, up Fairway to Braehead roundabout, where they terminated, turned round and went back tae toon. Skye Crescent buses served the more central part of Glenburn. From toon up to Skye Crescent (via Falside, iirc… mibbe Fintry) where it terminated. but that was in SMT days… not McGills. I’m sure things changed. However… … in the olden days, The Courtyard was, I believe, on Glenburn Road… down which that bus is hurling… not Fairway as erroneously added to that pic. The wee bend on the right of the picture takes you round to the Glenburn Road shops. Also, the cow in the field (above the bus in the picture) is still there, I recognise it. I pass the Gleniffer every day, want a picture?Cairters cannae even spell Gleniffer (it's 1 "n", 2 "f"s), so ah widnae trust him.

I disagree. and if you look above, at that Cairters Corner pic posted (in 2019) by Cairters Corner (a very trustworthy reliable Buddie), he also believes it is Glenburn Road. The original pic had no location attribution on it. I could be wrong. But, like fartaway, I will never admit to that. The original pic had no location attribution on it. I could be wrong but I doubt it. eta it’s years since I’ve been there. (I had an Auntie and Uncle living at that bit of Glenburn Road). I see that , like the busses, the building has been “remodelled”, too. if only someone living nearby could post other current pictures convincing me…. I thought my Google earth bus offering would suffice…The Courtyard/Glennifer is indeed on Glenburn Road. The road the bus is on is Fairway Avenue. PS had the misfortune of having to stay on Glenburn Road for a year.

As has been pointed out to good effect here, the Courtyard / Gleniffer is indeed on Glenburn road as Cairter said but the bus has turned off Glenburn road and is “hurtling” as one poster put it - down Fairway avenue. Although that last part I’m dubious about - knowing the nick those McGills buses were in , I’d say hurtling was somewhat wide of the mark 😂

Buddymarvellous
Agree but I was more referring to the way the kids pronounce it now - to rhyme with Jennifer - growing up in Glenburn I always referred to the Gleniffer braes with a quick first syllable (almost like Glyn) not the long syllable like in Jenn-ifer - hard to explain without hearing it.

Tried "zooming in" but couldn't make the sign out, if that's the name. PS Is it The Courtyard? Bus heading up Fairway Avenue was if memory serves me right, a McGill's of Barrhead bus which ran to and terminated at Skye Crescent shops. Can't remember if it ran to Springbank Road or Hawkhead. Western SMT ran along Glenburn Road to Braehead Road terminal, some occasionally ran down to the Mormon Church, bottom of Glenburn Road. It was our regular haunt for morning rolls when I was an apprentice at Lochfield garage . I’m sure it became Jacks about 1979-80 ish .

As kids, we used to walk home from the baths on a Saturday to save the bus fare and spent it there, usually. In the 80s, I lived in McIntyre Place and used to bump into Campbell Money at the shop on a Sunday morning. I think he lived more towards Potterhill. Just wanted to add, the McGill's buses that served Glenburn were on the Skye Cres-St James St via New St service. The terminus on Glenburn Rd was Fereneze Drive. I remember being told in Primary that the Renfrew Ferry-Fereneze Dr route was one of the busest in Britain due to the number of shoppers and workers using it to access other services and the workplaces around Paisley. Some of those teachers were lying gits, though. Edited January 20 by beyond our ken
