Two Days Left. Time To Decide, Or To Roll The Dice

Brilliant achievement to get this far but still short on the other two categories so still looking for as many individuals to sign up as possible.

Each block of 25 individuals signing on for £10 a month covers 1 x 87 Club member for example.

Well done everyone involved for getting the individual membership over the line!

Not long to go now and we'll know the outcome, so let's keep pushing. I've been texting, calling, emailing, tweeting every bud and every community-minded Paisley (and beyond) person that I know.

I just want to make sure - it'd be no good falling on its arse now.

Is it plausible for 10 fans to pay £300 each to get a 3K slot and then share the 20 shares? I know it means sharing the accompanying gubbins, but most would be in the bar anyway and any remote person who joins the 10 might just want the feeling of having 2 shares.

This has certainly been mentioned already - in the dim and distant past... I think the answer was, "yes!"

I certainly don't see any reason why not...

Good to see it over subscribed....a wee head start would do confidence the world of good. The fans have stepped to the mark yet again....three targets put in front of us now and smashed every one of them. Only the corporate bawbags and social funders can let us down now.

Agreed - brilliant achievement. Have any of the 10000Hours team considered approaching former players and staff now plying their trade in the EPL.

I'm sure Sir Alex would be very pwoud - very very pwoud to support a community takeover. Stevie Clarke and Paul Lambert launched their careers as Saints from a very young age. All three are very well known to Tony Fitzpatrick and I'm sure they would back this bid given their working class backgrounds and in Fergie his socialist and community beliefs.

Obviously taking it beyond that, perhaps every St Mirren player who joins the club in future should have to join the CiC at the base level during their time at the club.

They'd probably require the assistance of their agents to sign the DD form, thoughrolleyes.gif

Would be good to know what the short fall is ? Nothing worse than taking us on a high only to be dropped from a great hight

One of the first things that the members bar should be used for is having a Friday "Legends" night - perhaps hold one every 4 weeks, where the rank and file support get a chance to hear some of the stories from two invited guests - one with a St Mirren background and one from the after dinner circuit.

I recently had an opportunity to hear John Gahagan at a charity do and he was superb. With a good audience contributing the bar from early on, raffles, and some sausage rolls thrown in for good measure it could be a great way to generate funds on a regular basis to pay off the BII debt far earlier.

It would also give me a great excuse to get out of the house on a Friday night.

Nice idea. How much do you reckon admission would be?

The capacity is 600. Let's assume we could only get 200 punters in charging £10 per head. That's £2000 straight away. Assume each speaker's expenses amount to £500. You are already £1000 up before any bar profits and money raised from raffles, etc.

If you can get more numbers - more profit.

Sounds good to me, I'm in (at least a few times) smile.png

I hear Steven McGarry has signed up to the CIC. Let's hope he is encouraging Billy Mehmet and coach Ian Ferguson to do the same.

Fergie already meets the criteria for honorary membership of the '87 club and regardless of the abuse he has taken from many Saints fans over the years I believe he holds a genuine affection for his time at Saints so maybe he might be convinced to join up.

Are we not jumping a wee bit ahead of ourselves ? No fan bar exists and even when it get's the go ahead don't you need planning permission and a license first. Yes it will be great to have a members bar but I would think that is a looong way off yet. Let's concentrate on getting over the finishing line first with membership.

My half full pint has all of a sudden became cloudy not knowing how short we are on other memberships to carry this take over through.

Balfy there is a lot of money to be made from dinners.

Tonight is WWW's Sportsmans Dinner. We've got 360 tickets sold at £25 per head. Meals are costing £10 per head. And we've got some brilliant auction items including Alan Kennedy's European Cup Final Strip from 1981 and a signed Lionel Messi top in the auction tonight. The expectation is that we'll make around £6,000 profit once the speakers - John McKelvie, Alan Kennedy and Scot Glynn - are all paid.

But there is a limit to the amount of dinners you can do - not just because the fans reach saturation point - but because speakers themselves are a bit more protective of their material.

Gahagan is fantastic, as was Alan Rough a couple of years back but I'm told they do the same stuff every single time. No harm to them, it's really funny, but a dinner every month or so would soon cause them problems - especially since part of the community element would probably mean that some of the local charities would be hosting dinners at the ground as fundraisers, and they too would be tapping into the same potential market with the same speakers.

Have always thought that type of idea would work though I suspect guys like Gahagan are on a big wedge. At a guess it might up to £1K???? I wonder if guys like Dougie Vipond, Chris Brookmyre and Chick Young might speak free gratis? I once asked Campbell Money to speak at an event and he was crapping himself at the thought of public speaking. On that basis he should be first up lol.gif

Just a thought but I've been watching Jimmy's Supermarket stuff on telly. The purpose of the programme was to show that he could get free range foods onto Tesco's shelves for value prices, just by using products that are currently value less and being thrown away.

He made Chicken Kievs using hen meat which apparently sold well at Tesco, and he was looking to get veil meatballs on sale as well using deer that are usually shot and thrown away when they are just one week old. Seemingly the products he came up with were very tasty.

It got me thinking. There must be farmers around the Paisley area who know their products well, who know what is currently worthless to them in terms of what supermarkets want, that are tasty and which could be sold in community run shops at prices that may even beat the likes of Tescos. I know there is certainly an abattoir in the area. Maybe some sort of farmers market helping local business, and serving the local community?

Apparently the curry night that was held at the club a couple of years or so back was deemed a great success. Cheap and cheerful, and inclusive into the bargain.

I think that makes a change from corporate hospitality which, though decent value all things considered (or so I'm told as I have very little recollection of the day I attendedwhistling.gif ), is pricey.

Balfy's idea of bringing in speakers etc. is most definitely the way forward. For me, this is what was missing from our corporate package.

I'd happily pay an additional £15 - £20 on top of my ticket price on occasion (assuming there is no zombie newco in the league, of course) for a decent curry and access to the bar.

email through from GLS. They are going to meet on Monday to total up the numbers. Surely it cannae be that hard. The running total for general members is a cash monthly figure, all you need to do is multiply the number 87 club members and 1877 club members by their respective price tags. SPS's dug could probably manage that without the aid of a calculator.

Not yet another moving target surely. Monty f"k GLS / REA we've hit the target - tell us the hampden. Is it going to happen or not?

Well thats me just sat down after my usual day of popping pills, doctors appointments and shopping for one. After another days of chores designed to keep me alive for another 24hrs I have only just sat down at my beloved laptop and taken the first opportunity to log onto 10000hrs.

Firstly I wish to state how pleased and proud I am that a sizable section of the Paisley public (and beyond) has demonstrated the commitment required to make and exceed the target. Fantastic news and well done to all who pledged, I for one am proud of you!

Secondly I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Atkinson and all involved with the 10000hrs bid. Despite all the setbacks you have shown true determination and ability to get to this stage. Well done indeed.

Thirdly (and Lastly) I wish to encourage as many of you who have still to pledge to sit down, fill out the mandate and commit to this. The more the merrier.

Surely now this deal is close to be getting done, lets give it that final push..........

Edited to add: A special mention for Div. His hard work and expert use of his interweb skills have certianly helped 10000hrs get this far. We are lucky to have a supporter amongst us who is willing to work so hard for the club (the club being the Saint Mirren professional football club pte ltd co).
