Hello again, Shull. Are you back or is that a stupid question?

I was at that final, in the schoolboy enclosure, but I don't remember all that much. Baxter never broke sweat and was brilliant while Willie Henderson was a handful. George McLean played well for us and it partly sealed his transfer to that mob. Thankfully I don't remember a thing about their two goals.

Don't have the exact team but this was a typical Saints side of that season..

Grant, Gordon, White, Key, Robertson, McAvoy, Clements, Cunningham, Wylie, Paton and Anderson.

Same again tonight will be fine.:)

PS.Today in 1959 we won the Scottish Cup. :) :)

Oi McD.....Is that you at 1 min 7 secs into the clip?

I've got the offeeshull photo of me from Langcraigs Primary and in it I do look like that lad in the clip. By the '62 final I was a year or two older and was at the greatest school in Paisley. The Mighty Camphill.

Naw.

He's at 1m38. smile.png

You're nuthin but a cheeky bar steward. Were you there? I remember Jimmy Leitch got a crowd of us comps for a big game and I can't remember if it was that match or the Real v Eintracht Frankfurt game.

I was. Think it was school tickets, too....

We were in an enclosure in front of the Main Stand, bottom left as the players exited the tunnel.

They showed the Real /eintracht match, b+w film up in the Science Labs - that was the first I saw of that.

1919....Victory Cup Final....N.....Sellic Park....SMFC 3 Hearts 0.

http://www.fitbastats.com/stmirren/game.php?gameid=29554

By the beginning of the 1918-19 season the War appeared to be coming to an end and when it eventually ended in November, the Scottish League decided to introduce a Victory Cup competition to celebrate.

The competition started in March 1919 with Saints facing Dumbarton at Love Street in the first Round. A 0-0 draw took them to a replay at Boghead four days later and a Hodges goal was enough to see Saints through to face Clyde.

A 3-2 defeat of Clyde and then a 1-0 victory over Celtic, courtesy of a Thomson goal and some fine goalkeeping from Willie OHagan, took St.Mirren into the Semi final and a clash with Hibernian.

The match ended 1-1 and went into extra time. Right at the start of extra time Hibs lost one of their forwards with a broken collar bone and Saints took advantage of the extra man to record a 3-1 win, Thomson2 and Clark the scorers.

They faced Hearts in the final at Celtic Park on the 26th April 1919.

Once again extra time was necessary to separate the sides with saints emerging winners with two goals by Hodges and one by Sutherland to win 3-0.

Saints were presented with a Shield for this win as no cup had been made yet. When the cup was finally made it was presented to them and both trophies now reside in the Saints boardroom!

Was that the game that McGarvey went down as if he had been shot to win a last minute penalty? Must have been one of the few times Scan never took a penalty for us as he was a substitute.

We had some absolutely brilliant games against Utd from 77-86. Fast flowing football and a lot of needle between the teams.

That was why the Cup final win in 87 was a massive letdown for both sets of fans. But at least we won.

McGarvey wasn't playing for us then.

Scanlon never missed a penalty.

Quite hard to save a top binner every time

There were some real quality players from both teams on display that day. Why can we no longer produce many players like that? If those guys were playing today you could pick a decent Scotland team from them.
