Pay What You Can Scheme - Albion Rovers

I'm sorry but the Tory way is to expect people to fight for themselves.

You can't change it because it's you who is being damaged by that selfish attitude this time.

Surely all the weaker teams just need a kick up the arse to get them motivated.

I know why don't we remove ALL of their funding.

That'll force them out of their dependency.

This IS the Tory way.

It's nasty vindictive shite.

Live with it or vote against it like the rest of us.

It's funny that you don't see the obvious tie between football and general society.

Same thing is happening with both but you only get annoyed at the one which affects you personally.

Yep OK I'd be happy with that. St Mirren would be f**ked though as would Albion Rovers.

You do know I was talking about the junior teams right?

I ask because you just spent a few days telling us how the big bad strong teams like Saints and Albuion Rovers were apparently choking the smaller teams.

Were you? So you'd quite happily see taxpayers money used to prop up ailing businesses with £multi million turnovers ahead of grassroots football run by volunteers. I guess that's kind of warped logic I'd expect form a buckled nationalist....

I think you've misunderstood what I was getting at though - it's not taxpayers money I want to see senior clubs share. It's resources.

BBC reporting 718 at the pay what you want game today.

Very nearly double their average gate for the season.

It would be far more interesting to see what the gate receipts are and how they compare with a normal match day - and it'll be interesting to see what happens when the prices return to normal. I'd still wager that it'll have been a costly waste of time, effort and money.

Nope. I;m saying that as a Tory you should support the Tory principle of the survival of the strongest.

After all you support it at every other time.

Suddenly now, because it affects you, you are whining.

BTW "buckled" is Reynard's patter.

Either get your own or drop that particular alias.

BTW Albion more than doubled their gate yesterday.

Nothing to say about that then?

This was NEVER about them making money in one game and everything about PR as I said.

A doubling of the crowd seems to vindicate their decision.

BTW I don't want to see ANY professional football club receive government funds since they started chasing the coin from TV.

Why would you think I would?

I'm having fun at your hypocrisy that's all.

So you start by saying nobody will turn up and then when you are wrong there, you shift the goalposts and say it was about money.

You really are a hilarious troll.

I've got Dicko on ignore but he posts so much shit he's hard to miss. Maybe you should leave him alone all the same, Oaky. You're scoring some great points but he is an awful easy target. Mustn't mock.

Och, thinking about it, carry right on.

FFS Oaksoft, you really are hard of thinking.

First off - survival of the fittest? Really? Isn't that closer to your politics. After all we all know how left wing Nationalistic states like Stalins USSR, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Or Kim Jong-il's North Korea liked to cull those who didn't fit into their impression of "society".

In contrast conservatism is about small government, value for money and allowing market forces to drive the country forward which is totally consistent with the kind of structure I'm calling for within football. Instead of having greedy benefit junkies, like your Albion Rovers and your St Mirren's of this world, I'd be quite comfortable with the idea of withdrawing the kind of funding that is used to keep pro youth football afloat in favour of a system that makes them seek better value for money by working within the community to make every penny they spend go much further.

As for Albion Rovers well it's interesting to see that on their website they are claiming that gate receipts from this match were up 160% on the last home match against Montrose in August 2013 - the only game this season where they've listed their home attendance as n/a on the club website. That's brilliant news then - a great success - so I suppose we can all look forward to Albion Rovers maintaining the new pricing structure for rest of the season. rolleyes.gif If you do the sums it appears to suggest that Albion Rovers have their gate prices just about right because the average price per person paid would come in £8.72. Remarkable....

I'll follow the ramifications of what they've done with interest. After all they've quoted the Brentford scheme as the one they copied, but Brentford receipted the money that was paid in for their tickets by making fans book online and in advance in return for their donation. They also donated any excess paid in advance of £5 to Sport Relief. Albion Rovers haven't done any of that that which I think could bring them into conflict with Customs and Excise.

So now having accepted that you were wrong about the gate increase you moved the goalposts to talk about "Ah but they probably didn't make any money".

Having then been proven wrong about that as well you then change the goalposts AGAIN and start accusing Albion Rovers, without ANY evidence, of deliberately bullshitting about the figures and tax evasion.

You also seem to have some kind of strange idea that not donating to a charity makes them a target for C&E.

Seriously Stuart you need to understand that you simply can't make accusations of that nature without getting yourself into trouble.

All it will take is one person to forward your post to Albion Rovers and you could personally find yourself in the shit.

Please continue though. It's hilarious to watch stupidity in its purest form.

Backtracking Dicko?

As Leon would have said,

"Ideas that enter the mind under fire remain there, securely and forever."

Perhaps you should think before spouting your socialist rhetoric!lol.gifwhistling.gif

Just so that the Forum's two resident bores can continue their banter, out of sight out of mind of reasonable Buddies, here is a factual contribution to their tit for tats.

It's a copy and paste from a contributor on The Scottish Football Monitor.

I hope this helps? :)

Rovers chairman John Devlin, whose idea this was, tweeted last night, “Crowd increase of 125%, gate receipt increase of 160%, café/shop/add-ons increase of 165%”. The crowd against Montrose earlier in the season, on a balmy August afternoon, was only 311. Quite a jump to 718 on a day that was cold to begin with and got a helluva lot colder. I was there and was quite taken aback at the size of the crowd. I paid £10 btw, was intending to pay £8 but forgot to take a fiver and didn’t fancy asking for change at the turnstile!

Very interesting and surprising TBH but good luck to them for trying some incentive.

PS Do they have a good manager who's looking for a job? whistling.gif
