Limmy is back on tonight.

Haven't chuckled at any of his material.

Won't be watching.

Will be watching,  Not Going Out and Still Game.

My kind of humour.

On one of my returns to Scotland I watched the Scottish Cup highlights and having heard good things, watched Limmy's Show straight after. I haven't watched it again since, I didn't find any of it funny and I'm one who's usually easily amused.

Thankfully, BBC Southwest (probably all of England too) actually has the decency to show this series of Still Game, and a couple of lads at work can also appreciate the brilliance of it :D

Just finished watching Episode 6 of Civilisations recorded from BBC4 a reboot of the classic 60s series Civilisation - while the first five presented by Simon Schama and Mary Beard sequentially were all a bit meh E6 (First Contact) presented by David Olusoga was electrifying - explaining how the empire building of European nations following the Middle Ages affected art in both conquered & conquering societies.

His explanation of the significance of El Greco's The Disrobing of Christ was worth the licence fee itself - can't wait for Episode 8!

The programme compared the arrival of Europeans to Mexico & the Aztec Empire with that of their arrival in Japan & the Shogun one..

****************

The Aztecs were all but wiped out culturally but the Japanese and their art survive here is a copy of Okyo's Cracked Actor Ice which incorporates 3d into traditional Japanese art.

**********************

It continued with the replacement of God by Mammon and the representation of this in the intimacy of Vermeer's art which celebrates humanism.

and finished with the triumphal Company Paintings commissioned by the East India Company - wonder what he's smoking:wacko:

Well that post killed the thread stone dead!

Coupla comedies on at the moment that I find funny

  • Cunk on Britain - co-written by Carlie Brooker it's a review of British history by Diane Morgan's alter ego.
  • Young Sheldon - much funnier than the parent show TBBT these days!

Watched the Cunk on Britain a few weeks ago, wasn't expecting much, I was wrong,  lots of laugh out loud moments.

The Island................with Bear Grylls.

Bear, what a fud of a name, comes across as a total arsehole.

There's obviously so many situations that are set up................

The snake for tea............

The chicken that just appears in front of them...........

The mandatory poor caiman crocodile................

Poor wee pigs sent into an area to be killed...................

Nets, wow, always found on a desert island..................

Only interesting thing is the interaction, although reasonably obvious, between the stranded punters.

All female version of Julius Caeser directed by our homegirl Phyllida Law.

Phyllida Law 1965I remember her in Play School.

Quote

Phyllida Law, presenter

It was chaotic: filming five 30-minute programmes in two days. Although you had scripts, you improvised a lot. And you had to sing, of course, without laughing. I was permanently hysterical. I'd be terrified going in, wondering if I'd get through all the stress. But if I got frustrated, I'd just punch Hamble :boxing:o, the doll with the squashed face. She couldn't sit up and that's not helpful.
