Hi tony, you might want to log on to your computer maker website i.e. Dell, you can then search or run a diagnostic to see if your Drives are up to date, sometimes the rundll32.exe message appears if your PC automatically updates Windows etc. If so you might want to uninstall your last update and try again also you might need to search to see if you have backed up your hard drive and possibly re-install your back up.

Have you de-fragmented your hard drive? if you have a lot of stuff on your hard drive it can sometimes start to slow your PC down.

Hope this helps, sometimes just googling can sometimes offer a solution

Are you from Arbroath?

I read something about the type of sites visited up there, could slow down your pc.....

Cheers guys.

Defragmented already and cleaned up the disks as well - plus it is set to defrag it every week. I am running pc in safe mode and will try and uninstall some programs that I think might be slowing it down. Might be something to do with the last windows update right enough?

On another computer download Malware Bytes from my website mate http://www.bigfrontdoor.com/downloads/mbam.exe

Copy it on to a pen stick and use that to install it on the stricken PC. Let it update itself and leave it running a thorough scan.

Good chance are you have some malware.

I done this Div, got rid of various issues, except the main one, Mad Max? whistling.gif

Get it sorted. thumbup2.gif

Cheers div. Before I do this - will it be any different from the f-secure anti virus etc that I have installed?

This isn't anti virus software, it's anti malware, slightly different.

Malware Bytes isn't for protection as such, it's for removal.

Won't do any harm to give it a whirl mate.

cheers div thumbup2.gif

I had to leave it scanning overnight but it is working better now. Still slow although that might be either the pc or fluctuating broadband speed..

I should have malware protection as part of my virgin media security, (now changed to f secure), doesnt appear to have quarantined anything though unsure.png

Cheers boyo, looks good but given div's job I took his advice, ran Malwarebytes and it's fixed the problem - I'd picked up Outobox with some software I'd downloaded. I was so impressed that I downloaded the mobile version too and I'll use it on my phone.

Like ts, I've got F-Secure which is free for a year as a replacement for the old Virgin security and then has to be paid for. Given that it wasn't picking up malware I doubt I'll be investing in it when the time comes....
