Dundee are a far bigger club than us unfortunately. In fact there's a credible argument that Dundee are in fact a bigger club than Dundee United. In recent times they've been down on their luck, but in terms of hardcore support they probably just edge it I'd say.

Motherwell and Killie are slightly bigger than us, we're slightly bigger than Thistle but significantly bigger than St Johnstone and ICT.

Dundee United overtook Dundee as the bigger club approaching 40 years ago now. They get bigger gates and they are more successful.

Motherwell & Killie aren't bigger than St. Mirren (or Thistle). They've had the good fortune to be backed by rich benefactors for the past couple of decades which has gone a long way to explain why they have outperformed us.

It's generally pretty simple. In most countries around the world, the biggest clubs come from the biggest towns and cities. You'll find exceptions to that rule, but they ARE exceptions.

In football the biggest teams usually are the ones with the most finance, which usually means the ones with the biggest fan base. That's been the case, generally, since football began.

With that in mind, it's no real surprise that we're around the 7th-10th biggest club in Scotland, in my opinion. Take the OF scum as given 1&2, then the Edinburgh clubs. Aberdeen, Dundee Utd OR Dundee, then there's teams like us Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

Other than that, there's all your shite like Thistle, Morton, Dunfermline, Falkirk, St.Johnstone, Ayr Utd, and your Highland League teams.

Think that's it, apart from Gretna. Whoops.....
