Dibbles old paperboy
Lets not use st johnstone to excuse our lack of activity in the transfer market. On paper our starting line up isnt too shabby but if we get three or four injuries at the same time we will be totally screwed, not struggling,TOTALLY screwed Ok, let's talk Inverness Caley instead. Mid Calder Saint
You need a decent squad not only to cover injuries and suspensions. More importantly you need solid competition for places.
TopCat
I think all Tommy Wright said was he didn't think St Johnstone would sign anybody before next week's first leg of their European campaign. Which is different from they have no plans to sign anyone this summer. They had Goodwillie training with them and wanted to offer him a deal so clearly they plan to bring some players in. Not signing anyone before their first competitive game is strange though. You'd think they'd want to get their business done early as their season starts early. He wanted to offer Goodwillie a contract but he 'wasn't in a position to'.
TopCat
St.johnstone have a very decent squad, they will be fine. I think they'll be fine too, I also think they'll finish below us.

Unlike many others though, we have some fantastic young players coming through our acclaimed academy.

Not a new thing- most squads will not have masses of cover or competition. Teams just have to cope and adjust to injuries/suspensions. St Johnstone still have a decent squad, but maybe the new chairman is unwilling to write cheques out any more and the club needs to stand on its own two feet. Dibbles old paperboy
Not signing anyone before their first competitive game is strange though. You'd think they'd want to get their business done early as their season starts early. He wanted to offer Goodwillie a contract but he 'wasn't in a position to'. None of the Scottish clubs 'competing' in Europe this year have made many signings so far except Aberdeen and even then they have offloaded a lot more than they've brought in so far. The St Johnstone situation is odd. After the cup win the chairman urged fans to buy season tickets and spoke about how extra season tickets and more fans paying at the gate would make them more competitive financially. They will also have 2 sets of Tayside derbies next year with Dundee and United with healthy gates at those games. You'd think they probably got a small increase in season ticket sales and they should have been able to sign a few players before the SPFL pay out last year's share of prizemoney and sponsorship. They still haven't sorted out Tommy Wright's contract extension which was anticipated to be sorted out in "a few weeks" back in May. No responcse needed,i am not concerned with the activity,or lack of it,of other clubs. My point stands we should not be comparing our activity to that of other clubs, our squad is paper thin as of now ,no comparisons to our competitors alters that
