Stuart Dickson
There was a survey done on this issue a year or two back. It found that in the majority of cases it made no overall difference. Fans only remember the cases where there was a temporary initial bounce because that's what they want to believe in. The usual case is that it makes no difference in the short or medium term. Yep, there was and I would agree with the findings of the study too. I'd usually agree with you too that it's wrong to change a manager mid-season, if for no other reason but you are setting it up for the next manager to fail. However in some circumstances keeping the manager on is simply cheating the customers - especially season ticket customers - out of money. A classic example of that was the situation with Paulo Di Canio at Sunderland where players were simply refusing to play for him and there were more training ground bust ups than goals being scored. Sunderland removed Di Canio from his position and as a result of a much better appointment by the Sunderland board, Gus Poyet gave Sunderland fans one of our best seasons in a long time with a League Cup Final appearance, a great run in the FA Cup and a dramatic late turnaround to the league season seeing Sunderland pull off one of the greatest relegation escapes in Premiership history. TopCat
So in some cases it did make a difference, then? I think it's worth a punt. Also, Tommy Craig has lost the fans, and gates will continue to drop. Our average for this season is already down on every season since we came back up. So if a new manager does NOTHING except give some optimism - misplaced or genuine, it doesn't matter - then maybe we'll at least get some better crowds and more money through the gate to fund our promotion bid next season. Agreed? Gates over last 20 years: Do you have the figures for home gates? Obviously away gates have huge variants which are out with the clubs control. For example we've already had Accies, ICT and County at home this season. Those three combined would have brought less than any one of the Edinburgh clubs or Rangers, hence an adverse affect on total gates which is nothing to do with the club. Gordon Urquhart
Gates over last 20 years: Think what this does show is that any type of success on the park means that our average home gate goes from high 2K to 5K per match. Something to aim for surely...........

cambiebud
Watching Ross County against United. Although Utd are winning comfortably, at least County create chances. They have had more attempts tonight than we've had all season!Okay that's not true at all. We had several chances in the first half and early second half against United when we lost 3-0. If this was us getting pumped 3-0 at home by them with 20 to go would you be saying ' it's ok, we're creating chances...' ? TopCat
They have 10 men and have pulled it back to 3-2! Can't see us doing that? Still below us in the league, and we have a game in hand. cambiebud
I agree. Point is, we don't look like we can score goals. They and Motherwell do. Someone said we brought in 3 strikers in the summer. Ball is a striker. Caldwell is an old fashioned inside forward and Marwood is a winger. So who are the 3 strikers TC brought in? TopCat
Theirs; certainly if we could swap squads and manager. You'd rather be 12th having played more games than 11th, than 11th having played less games than 12th? Interesting. Also they haven't had a squad availability crisis this season, and they're still below us! And their new manager has already relegated one club from this league and he hasn't exactly set the heather alight since joining them. TopCat
Would you rather have their manager or ours? He's hardly a great manager, is he? His record is poor. QOTS fans wanted him out last season, Dunfermline fans wanted and got him out the season before. I'd be more concerned about them if they had appointed Danny Lennon. Mid Calder Saint
Topcat. Where do you get your info. Have you done a survey of Queens fans. I tell you we were at Dumfries twice last season and I thought he had his team playing well. As for the Pars he got them promotion yes they went down but we all know they had financial trouble. You simply just try to wind everyone up.We are shite this season and you and Crsig both know it.
