I was amazed at the number of their fans who had travelled midweek. Newcastle did spend a lot of time along side Oxford Utd in the old 2nd division during the 80's and early 90's. I can also remember visiting the Manor Ground for part of a two legged league cup tie around 1983. A very compact ground with a great atmosphere. They were in the old 3rd division at the time but were emerging as a decent side. Had the likes of Kevin Brock and a certain John Aldridge IIRC. Went on to win the league cup a couple of years later.
