Tess Calls Paisley A Shithole

Well he didn't

It was a taxi driver who took the reporter from airport to the ground who said it

Having read the dutch interview the usual hatchet job by a tabloid who Tess slates in the interview.

Who honestly believes the biased shite they print

Ah, ok. http://www.saintmirren.net/pages/?p=41231

f**king Glasgow Airport taxi drivers, a blight on our society and no mistake!

I can't make my mind up about what is actually the most cringeworthy part of this nonesense. People believing anything written in the Daily Retard, or the complete f**kwit of a Dutch Journalist listening to some tosser of a taxi driver who probably comes from Nitshill or similar Glasgow shitehole.

It's definitely Tesselaar's clothes.

The one in Edinburgh probably had double the cost of rent though, more for a beer, meal, gym membership etc as well. Paisley isn't the greatest place admittedly, but it has some nice buildings, a couple of decent boozers, a choice of sporting activities, and everything that you need for day to day living. It's also 10 mins on a train from Glasgow, which has a better selection of shops, and a far better nightlife than Edinburgh.

You've highlighted some great things about Edinburgh, then picked one of the poorer parts of Paisley (in terms of available activities and amenities) to compare it to.

Indeed. Very Daily Record in fact....

Where to start.

Disappointed in Tess for sure. Best you can say is that he’s been naïve and somehow hoped he could slate the town, the club and its fans, but because he did it in Dutch it wouldn’t make it back here.

Angry, but hardly surprised, at the Daily Record – though yet another excuse (as if another excuse was needed) to despise that rag.

But more than anything disappointed with the “yeah, well, Paisley is a shithole” responses from most people on here.

Notting Hill was a shithole in the 70s – now it’s £1m+ for a 1 bedroom flat.

Closer to home, Glasgow was a shithole (and a violent one at that) for most of the post-war years. People laughed that the city had the audacity to even think about applying for City of Culture status.

Fast forward just over 20 years and it’s lauded as one of the best cities in the country with tourists coming far and wide for shopping, museums, events etc.

Paisley is far from perfect due to years of neglect (some of it seemingly wilful) but has a potential that few other towns in Scotland have.

Despite what’s gone, the town still has a beautiful and compact centre – and there are people out there who are trying to bring it back to life. I’m sure there are plenty of people who live in Paisley but work elsewhere, and shop and socialise in Glasgow, because of the current lack of life in Paisley.

What we need is a ‘virtuous circle’ – more good places to eat, drink, shop means more people will spend money and time in the town – leading to more good places to eat, drink shop.

I believe it can happen, but when I see how quickly even people who you’d imagine would have an affinity with the town are happy to accept the “it’s a shithole” position, then I can see why it’s such a hard job.

Well said that man. Would like add more but it's just a can of worms

Tess's response to the article .....

http://www.saintmirren.net/pages/?p=41231

I’d like to apologise to Tess.

Didn’t realise even the Daily Record would attribute the quote from a taxi driver to a player!!!

Oh and, adopts M&S voice…. “This wasn’t just a taxi driver, this was a Glasgow Airport taxi driver”.

They’re bad enough when you’re ‘only’ going to Glasgow, but on the few occasions I’ve gone from the airport to Paisley the attitude stinks.

I have a thread running in General Nonsense where I have been posting images to highlight the great architecture of Paisley so I do believe my hometown has something great to offer.

I am frustrated by the Council who in my humble opinion have done their damnest over the last 40 years to rip the heart out of what was once a great town of amazing architecture, philanthropists, and people. Great buildings were left to rot and monstrosities like the Piazza were built. As a University town there is little cultural life. The world famous Paisley Pattern is almost impossible to find in Paisley. I could go on at some length about the town's current failings considering the potential it has.

However the comments made about Edinburgh were made by the student whom I referred to. They absolutely loved their year spent in the capital. Whereas the student who stayed in Paisley hated it. Not my words but theirs.

Fair enough. I would agree with a lot of your gripes regarding, successive councils in Renfrewshire.

Didn't realise the comments were from the students, so I take your point. I'm sure we could find foreign students who enjoyed their time in Paisley, and those who didn't enjoy Edinburgh however.

Are you on drugs , seriously ?

I lived in Paisley for over 30 years. If he said Paisley is a shit hole then he was wrong to "say" that given he is a St Mirren ambasidor which should not be forgotten

I also stayed in Paisley for years and was brought up there. When I go back there it saddens me to see how far from grace it has fallen. No I'm not on drugs but if I needed some then Paisley would be the place to find a dealer or two. Seriously would you consider moving back to Paisley?

The world famous Paisley pattern isn't actually anything to do with Paisley.... It's from India lol

In the 19th century European production of paisley increased, particularly in the Scottish town from which the pattern takes its modern name. Soldiers returning from the colonies brought home cashmere wool shawls from India, and the East India Company imported more. The design was copied from the costly silk and wool Kashmir shawls and adapted first for use on handlooms, and, after 1820, on Jacquard looms.

From roughly 1800 to 1850, the weavers of the town of Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland, became the foremost producers of these shawls. Unique additions to their hand-looms and Jacquard looms permitted them to work in five colors when most weavers were producing paisley using only two. The design became known as the Paisley pattern. By 1860, Paisley could produce shawls with fifteen colors, which was still only a quarter of the colors in the multicolor paisleys then still being imported from Kashmir.

In addition to the loom-woven fabric, Paisley became a major site for the manufacture of printed cotton and wool in the 19th century, according to the Scotland's Paisley Museum and Art Gallery. The paisley pattern was being printed, rather than woven, onto other textiles, including cotton squares which were the precursors of the modern bandanna. Being able to purchase printed paisley rather than woven paisley brought the price of the costly pattern down and added to its popularity. The key places of manufacture for printed paisley were Britain and the Alsace region of France.

What an absolute non story. We are facing a critical time ahead with crowds down, income down, non sale of club and a precarious league position that i find it incredible that following months of our fans looking for leadership and guidance from the board up pops our chairman to give an "i dont know the facts" statement so no comment.

I couldnt give a flying one if Tess said anything against our town but what i do want to hear is any of the following,

We,re in this together

We win or lose as a team

We need your support

The silence from within is trying the patience of even the Saints amongst us.

Rally the troops before its too late.

I think he does sum up a lot of what is wrong with our club & the Scottish game. Gets signed just because he can run (I can well believe that at St Mirren over the past few seasons), shows up 4 mornings a week then buggers off to his hobby and calls this full time, his club facing potential relegation and its financial consequences and he can't even be arsed to learn the name of a Motherwell player never mind study the guys inside out. Seemingly Isma when he first signed immediately requested videos of the Celtic full back he would probably be up against in the semi final. It didn't seem to do him any harm.

And while this isn't worth losing any sleep over, I think it does highlight the management issues at our club from top to bottom. There were times past when players would be remind that they are representing the club at all times, the fans pay their wages, they have an important role in the community and should be out at schools etc now and again, they should show the fans support at the end of the game and above all they should never ever badmouth the club and take a pride in their work. And a pride in the jersey, even if this little club is just a stepping stone for them. Tess has said all this because he knows nobody at the club would really give a shit.

Might explain why Kelly is somehow being picked ahead of him, he may be bringing this attitude to the training ground every day. Sorry, 4 mornings a week.

Gauld said in his 442 interview a few months ago that Sporting Lisbon have 3 training sessions per day compared to 1 at Dundee United.

I used to see Conor Newton going to the gym on weekday afternoons which impressed me but also made me think that St Mirren/Scottish football don't provide him with the correct situations to satisfy him and help him improve as a footballer.

Technically it is to do with Paisley though because the town was producing so much material at the time and customers were demanding the Indian Pattern on it.

So Paisley whilst not inventing it, made it well known throughout the world.

Cheap shot mate.

Is Paisley the only place in Scotland where you can buy drugs?

You sound like an Airport taxi driver.

I'm happy where I am now so no would not move back.

Have wonderful memories growing up in Paisley like you I am sadned by it's decline. However there are positives in it's beautiful architecture and wonderful parks. It was an industrial town as you know Kendo where the majority of people living in the town made good money. Like many industrial towns it's had it's heart ripped out. However it's still one of the best looking town centres in Scotland , easily in the top ten bar empty shops.

Asked where I am from I always say Paisley followed when I stay now.

I thought you were referring to hypothetical students. We shall all require that you be more clearerer 'n' aw dat fae noo oan, rite?

From my original post .... ' I know of two exchange students that came to Scotland. One ended up in Edinburgh and the other in Paisley. Who got the better deal?'

Seems pretty clear to me that I was not referring to hypothetical students :)
