Money - The Parachute Payment And Prize Money.

Recommended Posts

As most of us know - there is a parachute payment in place for relegation - £500,000.

Roughly for finishing 12th we also get about £750k. This will take us to 1.25m - or the same amount of money if we had came 4th in the league this season.

Next season we get a further £250k parachute payment, with anything from Close to £400k for 1st down to £155k for 8th (lets not be overly negative and assume we wont be in another playoff battle next season at the wrong end).

I dont think they have published figures for last season but the breakdown the season before were...

Premiership

1 £2,405,000 (-£315,000)
2 £1,718,000 (-£682,000)
3 £1,460,000 (-£60,000)
4 £1,289,000 (-£71,000)
5 £1,203,000 (-£77,000)
6 £1,117,000 (-£83,000)
7 £1,057,000 (-£63,000)
8 £1,005,000 (-£35,000)
9 £988,000 (+£28,000)
10 £902,000 (+£22,000)
11 £816,000 (+£16,000)
12 £730,000 (+£10,000)

Championship

13 £387,000 (+£319,000)
14 £344,000 (+£277,000)
15 £301,000 (+£235,000)

I thought it was £500,000/£250,000 for eleventh and only £300,000/£125,000 for twelfth.

Will the BoD adopt its usual strategy of budgeting to finish 3rd bottom of the league and anything else is a bonus or do we have a 1 year or a 3 year plan to get back up? Ms Budge and Craig Leven put their strategy to the jambo fans about this time last year.

If a team is to get relegated at any time this is definitely the year to do so. From what I can determine we will get £300,000 this season and £125,000 next season if we are not promoted. This is the last year of the parachute payments so those relegated next season get zilch. We also have Morton (who will go straight back down again but useful to us this season) and of course a couple of top-tier teams who can bring a substantial support (TFKAR, Hibs, or Well).

That's what I think also.

No - £500k for both clubs if they are relegated according to the reports from 2014.

Pretty sure it is...

It's a max of £500k for 11th place relegation and £300k for 12th place relegation.

If we fail to get automatic promotion we get a further max of £250k or £125k as per above premiership placing.

The link above to my post on another thread gives the figures from the SPFL Articles (Page 38). £500,000 for 11th and £300,000 for 12th. Next season both clubs would receive £250,000 and £125,000. This is the last year of parachute payments

Instead of squandering this money on terminating player's contracts, some of it should have been used to retin non-playing staff who have lost their jobs through the incomptetnce of the BoD.

The same people who got their jobs through the competence of the board in the first instance surely.

We're not a charity. It is never nice when people lose their jobs but what's done is done. Unfortunately due to mistakes made by the board they'll now need to make difficult decisions - but these have to be based on what is best to take the club forward, not sentiment.
