St. Mirren Looking For A New Manager

Recommended Posts

I am pretty sure its not GT for the gig, they admitted (hoooooooorah) Craig was a mistake, they wont do another with Gary. Reading between lines, they say a person who can develop so that's going to be a manager who can show development thru ranks, now possibly Pep as he turned down City job or more trealistically Murray- he is my bet. Keeps Sons in League they have no right to be in. Young, respected and ambitious. Perfect. Or Pep???

My dream team appointments would be:

Campbell Money

Jackie Copland

Billy Abercromby

Tony Fitzpatrick

Frank McGarvey

Frank McAvennie

Ricky McFarlane

Perhaps I'm just showing my age........but those guys would transform our club.

Past it mate. whistling.gif

As already mentioned ...

Definite no no's

Billy Stark

Billy Reid

That Cnut Adams

Noticed big Mcleish in the Herald talking about his time in Belgium. All about specialist coaches and technique. Makes me think Jimmy Calderwood is a stand out candidate as he has picked up great experience in Holland and here. Tan man for me.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong, however I fear that with the current BoD remaining in place, we shouldn't expect a remotely inspiring appointment.

That said, I'm struggling to think of who might be an inspiring and realistic candidate for the post, so they are likely to have their work cut-out.

In fairness, I'd be happy enough (as I've banged on about in the past) for a professional recruitment process. So....please interview more than one applicant, and carefully analyse their career records.

There is a great deal hinging on this appointment, so I hope the BoD take the time to carefully consider who would be the best fit in the current circusmtances, and early indications are that they are looking to do this, so that has to be a positive.

They will Drew. Rest assured. Right up until ST's have been purchased......

Then they'll apoint Teale!

Douglas McNeil retweeted a guy on Twitter who said "Darren Ferguson will be the new St Mirren manager". Pretty confident talk, but doubt it's more than a guess. Don't see that happening.

He certainly ticks the 'contacts' box!

One of the lower league sides that do have a good record of producing youth talent is Queens Park. Gardner Speirs was in charge there when they "sold" Andrew Robertson and Aidan Connolly to Dundee United. Dundee United then went back to Queens Park then under Gus McPherson to sign another ex Speirs youth product in Blair Spittal. Given the challenges Queens Park managers face down there I think Speirs did a pretty good job, just as he had done at Aberdeen and Clyde before.

title should read - St Mirren Looking for a Manager- certainly be a novel approach considering our last two appts. Wish Gary would go learn his trade elsewhere. Does this guy think he is a success???? Last time we beat County 2-1 we went to 10th. 6pts ahead of County- Does he forget this?

Here's a list of Scottish manager's who are currently out of work. Think it's pretty up to date but haven't checked through them all.

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trainer/verfuegbaretrainer/statistik/?statistik=190&plus=

Some interesting names there, actually.

Out of that entire list the manager with the lowest points per game ratio was Tommy Craig

Would george burley be interested in getting back into the game at our level? I always thought he tried to play attacking football with Scotland and got a bit of a rough deal cos of the wee glasgow ned and his pals. Good record with hearts and took Ipswich into Europe with an exciting young team. Preparing to be shot down! And prob wouldn't touch us.
