Scott Agnew

Recommended Posts

Can remember him playing with Hamilton and saw him play against us for Ayr and Stranraer. He was a winger type player tgen he's pretty small. Technical player. But to be honest reminds me of a jamie mcclusky

He played Centre mid mainly for dumbarton.

Central midfield of Mallan and Agnew with a good holding player behind them (possibly Goodwin...) should do pretty well in the Championship. If McGinn stays, even better.

I'd be amazed if McGinn isn't still with us next season.

I think some folk may be a bit wary as a result of Danny Lennon signing one or two Cowdenbeath players.

It needs to be remembered though that those guys were taking a big jump up in level. Scott Agnew will remain playing at the same level.. only, now for a better team...

Dumbarton have been mid table for the past 3 years and he's been their best player. He's scored a few goals, is left sided and is good with set plays.

What's not to like?

(PS It should be remembered that Darren McGregor was actually a fantastic player)

playing at the same level but with full time training should only make him better ?

Saw him play for Dumbarton against Dundee a year ago at Dens when the Dee won promotion. He was the best player on the park and scored, albeit a pen. Was really confident on the ball, skilful and was right up for it. If it happens, it could be a very good piece of Championship business.

He's the kind of signing that if we made it when we were in the top flight you'd have your head in your hands over.

We obviously aren't though, and this guy has been playing week in week out in the Championship for 3 seasons. His experience of the league will be welcome and I think he will prove to be a valuable member of the squad... If he signs that is!

My definitely signed but it's near enough done and dusted. People already shooting the guy down. Yes we need to hit the ground running this season but at least give the guy a chance show is what he is all about!!

I don't think too many folk are shooting him down, to be fair.

I think he would be a decent addition. Like most, though, I'm not in a position to comment with any real authority, however.

As as aside, about 8 or 9 years ago, me and my pals played 5s at Townhead. One week, my Accies supporting pal thought one of the opposition players was Scott Agnew who played for the team he supported.

As they lined up for kick off, my pal said "Alright? You're Scott Agnew, right? I'm an Accies fan" to which the said player replied "Nah mate, you've got the wrong guy."

Unfortunately for him, his ruse was scuppered by the shouts of 'Aggers!" requesting a pass when he first got a touch.

In conclusion, he seems a decent player - certainly a set piece specialist over the last few years, but maybe isn't the smartest.

By the way, our team won :)

Good article about him here: https://thedumbartonterrace.wordpress.com/2015/06/08/scott-agnew-ability-and-personality/

Bout time we have someone who can pose a regular threat from free-kicks - in fact with him and Mallan we might even have the luxury of options from set-pieces.

Hold on now.

Wylde posed right from outset!

Decent signing, asked a Dumbarton supporter in work about him and he said he is pretty good.. was great 2 years ago, had a poor season last year but was pretty good this season. Only worry is that his goals for Dumbarton dried up when they moved up to the championship, hopefully the switch to full time will bring his game on. I wonder if Murray sees him as a starter or as backup.

I'm just concerned that Murray doesn't seem to be addressing our priorities in the exact order of their respective level of priority.

He should sit down and number each position in order, according to urgency, then bring players in, in that order. Straying from the list, or buying the number three before the number two, should result in immediate sacking.

Or some other equally insane rant to that effect.

Welcome to the madhouse, Scott.

Aye, this notion of player position being priority at this stage of the close season is a bit odd. We currently need to recruit players for ALL positions, as and when they are available.
