Seaside Nipper
Bbc gossip has this story too and says that we will get no compensation fee is he goes to the MLS! Only us eh.........possibly recouping something like 270k , but this is St Mirren , so all things being equal he'll probably get the gig in MLS and there's SMFC, potless in move money once again. FFS.

Isle Of Bute Saint
Rerun of the Jamie' Fullarton situation where he opted to go to France for a year so that he could return to the UK so that no fee had to be paid to St Mirren. McGinn is obviously finding it hard to get a club in the UK because of the fee that needs to be payed to Saints. So his agent has seen a loop hole. Take some time out playing your football across the pond in a league that has a good standard and pays well. Here we are again getting hee haw for brining young players on it happens time and time again. Football authorities should get together and fix such loop holes. After all clubs like St Mirren have put in time and money to bring on such talent as McGinn. After all clubs like St Mirren have put in time and money to bring on such talent as McGinn.Football authorities can't outrank international laws... And I can't imagine the SPFL/SFA ever doing something to benefit the Scottish game, in general. Perhaps if it was Sevco losing out, they'd think about it.Also... The easiest way round the problem would be to have individual players committed to contracts that close the loophole... So, should we blame the BoD as usual for missing out after they should have learnt from the Fullarton F.U.? Or just blame Cheesy? (Fwiw, if you did have such tightened contracts, perhaps parents/young players would be scared off initially?)
Bud the Baker
I hope he goes - simply based on the assumption that he doesn't want to stay. We can't afford to have want away players at the club. Totally agree although it looks as though recent events have overtaken the situation........ Good luck to McGinn with the usual exception. Would you be happy if you couldn't work because your former employer wanted a transfer fee? If we had a youth academy that produced good young players on a regular basis where other UK clubs were prepared to pay transfer fees then there wouldn't be a problem here. Any potential fee is chicken feed to English clubs. They just don't rate him enough.

I think we've done OK bringing players through - 5 players gaining Scotland U-21 caps while we were in the SP(F)L but in terms of selling on we didn't seem to get it right especially in the wake of the LC win when you'd have expected John McGinn & Kenny McLean to have been "hot".
