Best Ever Save By A St Mirren Goalkeeper

Recommended Posts

Not sure about a single save, but one of the best match performances from a keeper of over the course of a match I can recall has to be Tony Bullock at Tynie in our promotion season. By Christ, they battered his goal but he simply would not let them past him. Then came Kean with the sucker punch. Superb. Bullock was imperious that afternoon.

Definitely one of my favourite away days. Remember it fondly.

Billy Thomson at Love St v Partick in 80/81ish. Going one way and twisted mid air to palm a header away. Received a good minute's applause.

I was actually going to type something similar only it was mid to late 70's against Legia warsaw in a friendly at love street

we won 1-0 with Donnie McDowall scoring (they had Danya playing for them)

but i cant remember our goalie's name who made the same save as you described

Does anyone remember a game back in the early to mid 80's when we either drew or beat the blue bigots? An 8 or 9 year old me was in the old enclosure at Love Street with my dad, who had warned me not to celebrate if we scored, as we were surrounded by the usual scary knuckle-draggers that took over the place when we played them.

We scored(possibly Cowboy McCormack) and I bit my lip and just about stayed calm. Then near the end they got their usual soft penalty. Their fans were celebrating it like a goal. Robert Prytz stepped up and Thompson saved it. I couldn't contain myself and sprung into the air. As I came back down to the ground a middle aged Rangers fan spat in my 9 year old face. That was the start of my hatred of 'them'.

Anyway, it wasn't an amazing save, as it was a shite penalty, but it's probably my most memorable one, for a bad and great reason(think we stuffed them 1-0, but I could be totally wrong?)

Not a saints keeper save, but the best save I witnessed live was while standing in the Kop behind Roughie when he tipped over Toshack's header (?) in the '78 World cup qualifying game v Wales.

Still think Gordon Banks' save of Pele's header in the 70 World Cup takes some beating
