When players make a wall for a free kick, the majority cup their baws. So if the ball hits their hand(while cupping baws), is that a pen?? don't be daft

Good argument. Get Agnew trained at drilling shots at testicles! Penalty and red card every match.

Are you suggesting he had accidentally glued his hand to the post?

No.

But he was told to do, so that makes it O.K. apparently.1eye.gif

Apparently, Murray's signing the dude below to cover more of the goal and it won't matter which arm/hand keeps it out of the net, as he'll be told by the coach to get as close to the post/bar as possible.

Check out the following explanation given by referees association as guidance for referees on "intent" and you should change your mind.

Regarding handball they now ask the referee to consider the proximity of the potential offender to the person last playing the ball, the speed of the ball and importantly whether the offender's arms are in a natural or unnatural position.

So the question of intent is now, did the offender deliberately place his arms in an unnatural position to increase the chances of the ball hitting him?

If the answer to that is yes then it is correct to penalise that player even though it used to be argued that was ball to hand.

Someone please answer middle paragraph for me

So in a football sense his hand is in a completely natural position. No pen

You don't *need* to stand with your hand on the post, so there's nothing natural about it. Just like you don't *need* to protect your bollocks when in a wall.

The difference here though (and it's a biggie) is that the second example is permitted as you are allowed to protect yourself from injury.

Can no one answer the middle paragraph?

Well, hand at elbow height when the rest of your body is a full arms length away from the post you're supposed to be defending. Risking the possibility of allowing the ball to strike your hand or arm in the box when it's fully outstrectched and away from your body....I'd say it is intentional, yes.

Did he put his hand on post to handball the ball?? No

OK. I'll say this one last time as you're clearly not getting the jist.

His hand didn't need to f**king be on the post. If he was actually covering the post correctly, he wouldn't have been an entire arms length away from it when the header went in and would have been able to clear it with his chest or head.

Therefore, by making this mistake (and that's what it was) he's denied a clear goalscoring opportunity by handballing it on the line. Penalty and a red card.

It's a definitely penalty - wether it's a sending off is a different argument.

If you've ever played football and stood at a post, you are either holding the post to keep you close to it or you're knackered and having a rest.

I'm sorry mate, its none or both

Completely wrong
