Good wee article in today's Retard about Lewis McLear. Maybe worth more game-time in the first team?

St Mirren ace Lewis McLear wants to fire his side to victory against Falkirk after being left gutted at not making the bench against Rangers.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been on fire for the under-20s side with eight goals in nine games from the middle of the park this season.

With seven goals in his last four games, it’s obvious that McLear is the most in-form goal threat the Paisley side has to offer. He said: “Hopefully, I can just get myself in the first team and score more and more goals.

“I was gutted not to be involved for the Rangers game as I’ve been working hard and scoring goals.

“But I’m looking forward to this weekend now and if I get a wee chance, I’ll show how capable I am of playing at this level.

“It’s motivation to be left out of the squad and you can’t be upset about it – you learn and move on as there’s always a game the next week to prove what you can do.

“I’m in the best form of my career and hopefully the first team will look to me for some goals as we move forward.”

McLear singled out St Mirren head of Youth Development David Longwell as one of the main reasons he’s hit a purple patch.

But he also said that manager Ian Murray’s willingness to throw youngsters into the heat of battle is a huge incentive.

He added: “Ian Murray just tells me to keep my head down and keep doing what I’m doing.

“He’s at every under-20s game and watches everything we’re doing, so it’s nice to know he cares so much about our development.”

“Against Falkirk, I just want to be involved 100 per cent.

“If I’m in form, the manager will have to consider picking me.

“I’ve had three seasons with the under 20s and in my first, I really struggled to score many goals.

“In my second season, I still only managed a few.

“But this season I set a target of at least five goals with the first team and I want to try and hit 20 for the under-20s.

“My biggest target though is just making an impact with the first team as I think I’m versatile.

“I can play anywhere through the middle although I think I’m at my best playing just off the main striker.

“I just need to take the chance when I get it.”

Ultimately it's Gilmour fault for employing Murray.

Therefore the Manager must be sacked .

An EGM must be called.

Present Board to be heaved oot the Door.

And replaced by some wise men from the 1970's St Mirren Choir.

You know it makes sense.

Have to wonder why McLear isn't making the bench... Yet McGraith is.

Hard to see any justification for that really.

McGraith has scored in the last two games and has limited SPFL experience.

However, I'm surprised that McLear didn't make the bench on Sunday.
