"happy with a play off place". Really judging by last year when the play off winner - Gers got stuffed 6 v 1 by Motherwell. We need a much better squad to even compete in the Championship never mind compete with Premiership teams.

We need to spend some of the £500,000 from McLean and McGinn on some good quality pro's. Defence is no where near good enough and how many goals are we likely to score? Sadly the Gers have done a far better job building their squad in recent months and they too had new manager, assistance and big squad changes. (They also have far bigger overheads/potential debt)

They also have a bigger player budget and 50,000 fans. Much easier for them to entice players than a provincial club like us.

Must be me but I'm struggling to see why everybody appears terrified of rangers...signed nobody's and beat a poor hibs side.. Why they are favourites is beyond me...

It's beyond you to understand why a club with 30 times the turnover of their nearest rivals are considered favourites to win the league?

Well back in the sane world, it's not beyond anyone else.

Meanwhile, someone can probably point me to a quote where Thommo or anyone else form our club has said we'll lie down to Rangers on Friday?

Any player of any club who does not have the ambition to target winning the league at start of season shows a total lack of respect towards the fans..if I was Thommo I would have said "I fully expect saints to fire out the blocks this season and go on and win the league" keep the negative shit to yourself!

Why would you say that?

Why is it not enough to quietly believe it?

Why allow any hint of Billy Big Baws to escape the dressing room and help to fire up our opponents?

Another numpty who has never played competitive sport successfully.

Just like a lot of you, I have sat in pubs, on trains and other public places during this closed season, listening to big red faced, baw-heedit zombiphiles discussing how there's no competition for their ghostly spectre of a club this season and, as a result, they'll sweep all before them in the league. I then watched them demolish a strong Hibs team 6-2 in the Petrofac Diddy Cup. Each of these incidents made the wry smile on my face a little broader, knowing each time, the Tribute Act's fans and players were growing ever more complacent. Our great Captain's comments are true, they are strong favourites to win the title, but maybe those words were the last straw wee needed to lull them into that false sense of security that will allow us to pump them rotten in their own midden this Friday evening...maybe, just maybe...

Take your points but what if St Johnstone or Dundee Utd players said that finishing second and getting a European slot was the best they can hope for with Celtic in the league?

Will probably be true if Celtic keep buying up United best players.

Are we (St Mirren) trying to break our star man? He is 37 years old and has something to offer at this level but all he could do tonight was chase down centre halfs who passed to there counterpart centre half and had Thommo chasing shadows. He can no longer play that game but the way we are currently setting up forces this upon him! I fear that he won't last more than a dozen or so games before he picks up an injury that forces him to hang up his boots!
