Ayrshire Saints
Saw a good few Buds down in Ayr today. Cracking display despite a couple of technical glitches. The Typhoon, what a beast and the Arrows were utterly breathtaking. Loved the Swedish historical displays and the Flying Fortress was great too see. Farewell the Vulcan, looking forward to it's final Scottish departure tomorrow.
Callum Gilhooley
Yep , fantastic day had by all. Over 70000 people , Great Weather & superb displays as you mentioned. Great credit must go to the organising committee & the local authority who get right behind this event. Again , special displays from the Typhoon & the always incredible Arrows but very sad to see the end of the wonderful Vulcan The airshow calendar will be significantly poorer for its absence. jimmy boo
Easily surpassed last years show with the line up. Fantastic entertainment from beginning to end on a day of perfect weather. We were on the beach when the red arrows approached from behind in formation with smoke trailing....just awesome!!! The commentary from their boss and listening in to the lead pilots radio transmissions added to the whole occasion. Not sure about 70000 but you did well to find any familiar face in that crowd. Now Thats possibly a bit OTT ! Either way , Fantastic day , fantastic crowd. http://www.milngavieherald.co.uk/news/scottish-headlines/scottish-airshow-attracts-record-crowd-of-120-000-1-3878762

class of 76-77
Having spent the weekend at Craig Tara holiday park I can confirm that we had a fabulous view of all the events going on at the neighbouring Air show. The red arrows were quite breath taking to watch, our view from the top of the site made for some cracking photo's and video footage. Callum Gilhooley
Scotland broke the Vulcan !! There was a problem with the front nose wheel , those who were there might have saw her circling Prestwick for about 20 minutes after the display & being shadowed by another plane to do a visual check . She had to transit all the way back to Finningly with wheels down ! Hope it can be sorted soon.

Stuart Dickson
I've just read a report on line that said that after that display at the airshow the Vulcan had to perform an emergency landing at Prestwick because it's landing gear became stuck. A few years ago , there was a Sea Fury at the show (when it was actually at the airport) , he could only get one of his main gear down and ended up ditching , the last airworthy Sea Fury , in the sea. . https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1989/1989%20-%202281.html

At the same show there was a 747 had to make an emergency landing also after a smoke alert on board.

FS
The Vulcan had a problem with it's front landing gear not fully extending, resulting in it flying around in a circuit until another aircraft (Spitfire) could get close enough for a look and to eventually confirm the gear was fully down. Tho resulted in a full emergency landing on the main undercarriage with the nose held up off the ground until the very last second, to slow the plane down as much as possible first. A great bit of airmanship and they flew it back to it's base at the former RAF Finningley (Doncaster Airport) on Sunday with the landing gear down all the way. The Vulcan's display flying career is due to end after the 2015 season after which it will be hangered as a museum piece.

Correct, the crew were saying at the Sunday static display they also manually blasted the hydraulics with compressed air to prevent the front wheel collapsing. That could have resulted in a leak if fluids which would have closed the runway and effectively ended the show but thankfully it all ended well. Just shows the massive maintenance requirements on vintage aircraft.

FS
They're saying air entering the hydraulic line supporting the nose gear via a faulty part was the culprit. It's up on jacks today and should be repaired by Thursday for this weekend's airshow commitments.
