Big Jake
I hope we do get more fans joining in with their £12 or £25 per month. If Sevco can get 15000 donating £10 per month and the pars have 2000 donating to their fund surely we can get near to the 2000 mark to help out great club. Can someone explain if the additional numbers go towards paying the loan off quicker or is this additional cash for the board to use as and when? I think the additional numbers will be split as now. £10 towards buying out Gordon/paying off loan, and £2 to SMiSA to use as required. Someone will put me right if this is incorrect. Drew
Another positive spin-off of this deal is that ordinary punters will hopefully gain an increased understanding in what is involved in running a club. I'll certainly pay more attention to income and outgoings etc, and take a keener interest in potential revenue streams and the like. I've no doubt been guilty of weighing in to the BoD on occasion from a position of ignorance, so hopefully we can foster a greater understanding and more educated balanced approach now that many of us have a stake that reaches beyond simply supporting the team. That couldn't be a bad thing.

Magic Monkey
Time like this that I'm glad this site doesn't limit the number of 'likes' we can give. I'd have run out of P&B green dots many times over here. f**king amazing news everyone, congrats to everyone who has worked so hard to pull this off. I bloody love St Mirren. All the membership monies are spent in accordance with SMiSA members wishes. You decide what it gets used for.
barrymitchell
If we get more members then the money is still split between £10 for share purchase and £2 ringfenced.
barrymitchell
If majority of members want that split to change because we have well over our target then it can change.

Sonny
From today's Evening OF ... Bright new dawn for St Mirren as takeover gets green light George Adam MSP (Left) with Gordon Scott, who led the takeover bids 1 hr ago / Graeme Macpherson ST MIRREN are set for a new era after the bid to take the club towards fan ownership smashed through its 1,000-member target on Thursday evening. The St Mirren Independent Supporters Association (SMISA) has teamed up with former director Gordon Scott on a joint offer for the majority shareholding already accepted by the selling consortium. But the deal depended on SMISA having 1,000 fans signed up to pay a £12 per month membership by this weekend – and the trust last night burst through the milestone with days to spare after just two months of fundraising. The plans will see Scott become chairman and majority shareholder and the trust receive a 20% stake and a place on the board – with an exclusive option to buy Scott’s shares within ten years and achieve majority fan ownership. Scott and SMISA will now lodge a £100k deposit with the selling consortium to secure exclusivity while due diligence is carried out. The hope is the sale will be finalised and a new five-man board in place at the Paisley 2021 Stadium for the start of the new season in mid-July, bringing to an end the 18-year reign of the current board led by chairman Stewart Gilmour. SMISA chairman George Adam said: “Today has been a momentous day in the long history of our club. It means the people who care about St Mirren most will be able to help shape its future. “In doing so they can make sure it stays exactly where it belongs – at the heart of the Paisley and Renfrewshire community – forever. “I would also like to pay tribute to the current board – who have put so much into the club over the past two decades and can be proud of all they have achieved. “But 1,000 members is just the start – there is no upper limit on how many members we can have, so people can still sign up any time at smisa.net and have their say in this new era for their club. “The more members we have the better – it means less financial risk on the trust, a greater pool of talent to draw on, and the more money available to spend on club and community, while we work towards the long-term goal of majority fan ownership.” Construction boss Scott – who project managed the building of the Paisley 2021 Stadium during his previous stint on the board – added: “I would like to thank everybody who has signed up to make this possible and hope many more will join up in the days and weeks to come. “There remain a few legalities to be concluded but all being well I hope to be assembling a new board for the new season and the start of a new era for St Mirren. “That will mean the best of both worlds – I hope myself and the others will bring the expertise and ideas to take the club forward, while working with the fans to give them a greater say in the running of their club than ever before.” Edited June 17, 2016 by Sonny

Stu
Tremendous news. As much as I was behind the deal I was concerned we weren't going to get there, even at the start of the week. The last few days seem to have provided a bit of momentum and got us there. As time goes on and things hopefully work more fans will sign up. The 1,000 already contains a safety net so obviously the more folk that sign up the better. That's the easy bit done, now for the hard work to really start! car-d bud
as a paying member I think they should be bringing their own. Someone on the cakes, someone else on the sandwiches, 2 flasks each of tea and coffee...........we need to minimise costs to bring in more players ! bud77
A fantastic effort from everyone involved at SMiSA and considering this is the second time in recent years that a target to try and achieve fan ownership has been reached, I think that indicates that there's a lot of Saints fans who believe it can work.I hope that it works so well that the numbers just keep increasing to the point where we have at least as many members as our average home crowd.
