FFS. Is your next thread going to be about the SPL championship clincher in 2019?

FFS man get a grip, what is wrong with starting a thread about our first fixture of the new season? Or stating a hope that we would be at the top of the league after this game and hanging onto it for the rest of the season?

This is a Saint Mirren supporters website, would you prefer it if we banned optimistic posts?

Thought by default that there was no need for such a ban, as this is a St Mirren board.

Optimism and St Mirren, seriously laugh.png

Kiss of death here but, despite winning their group, Morton are looking pretty light in terms of personnel, compared to last season.

They've lost a number of players who played a lot of games for them: Miller, Barr, McKee, Gasparotto, McCluskey, McManus, Denny Johnstone (17 goals)......... Of the 11 who started against us in April, 6 of them are away. In contrast, the only player who started for us who has moved on is Alex Cooper (and that was the manager's choice).

Their main signings have been Michael Boyle (a centre-half from Alloa), Gary Oliver (QotS substitute for most of last season) and young Lindsay from Celtic. 5 players started today who are 21 or under and 2 of their 3 subs were teenagers (the third sub was Jon Scullion who was with us). Maybe Duffy will make some signings this week.

We're certainly going into the game with a much more experienced and settled side. Fingers crossed....

On paper we look to have done better business in the summer than Morton but they topped their LC group going into the knockout stage as a seeded team whereas over the four games we finished behind p/t Ayr United.

Unless we really gel this season or either/both Dundee Utd. or Hibs underperform then we're looking at Morton as one of our main rivals for a play-off place - let's get off to a flyer.

COYS!

Indeed, yesterday is now gone but will remain a shameful part of our history.

A few wee tweaks here and there by Alex Rae and we will destroy our minging neighbours.

COME ON THE SAINTS, GET INTAE THEM !!!!

Morton drew 0-0 with Albion Rovers, scraped a 1-0 win against Clyde and yesterday had a 2-0 win against a 10 man Berwick, their only half decent result was beating a struggling Kilmarnock 2-0, topping their group is actually quite deceiving and making their form seem better than it actually is, I think we will get our league campaign off to a flyer next week with a comprehensive victory against our inferior neighbours.

They'll not take much comfort from winning that group. They were in with three League 2 sides and Killie who are all over the place. Lee Clark seems to think a team of kids released by English lower league clubs will be successful in the SPL. Could be a huge miscalculation, early signs aren't good anyway. They should have strolled that group.

Although we're out, I think our group will have prepared us better for next Saturday. Just the one League 2 side, an SPL side in decent shape, another Championship side and one who were in the Championship last season. We had 3 real tests and 4 different kinds of matches.

We are stronger and they are weaker than when we beat them 3-1 back in April. Really need to get 3 points on the board next week. I think we will.

I suppose that's a more positive way to look at it, at least we agree that us winning is the important thing.

Only se7en days till we find out.................
