One of my all time favourites. I thought he was even better than Peter Weir.
Was at his best on the right wing cutting in.

His goal in the 4-2 win against Celt*c was incredible.
Never missed a penalty kick.
Amazing player.

I remember that game very well.

We were 0-2 within 15 minutes and 3-2 up by half time [emoji4]

Happy Days

I think Alex Miller was manager and either side of that we beat a Jock Wallace Rangers 3-0 , Jim McLeans Dundee Utd 4-0 and a very good 0-0 away at Aberdeen ?

Saints ultimate bogey team🥺

Really Ida thought it was the Fakes - our H2H record is utterly horrendous for a team I'd consider should be on a par (sic) with us...

As an aside this must have been a crazy double header from The Good Old Days - @antrin tells me we wuz robbed down there....

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP Fr 30Jan 1948   St Mirren 7 - 1 Queen of Sth

SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP Fr 30Jan 1948             Queen of Sth 8 - 1 St Mirren

We also played them twice in the league that day too - do any club historians know if we played the two away games then travelled back up the road for the home games (or vice versa) or whether we made three journeys and did the teams share busses?

SCOTTISH DIV 1 (OLD) Fr 30Jan 1948   St Mirren 0 - 1 Queen of Sth

Weren't a bogey team they just had a guy who always seem to score against us

Ken Eadie a Shortroods boy said in the press he was a Saints fan

The bogey team as pointed out is the Fakes

Stayed on Greenock Road.

His brother, Davie, was about my age, hung about with him a bit when I was at Mossvale.

He stood on the NB from the mid 70s , he recently posted on FB about driving down to Fulham for the Anglo-Scottish tie and sleeping in the car. He also said that Doug Somner  was his hero and that he wished the club could have come up with a similar deal to Somner which would have allowed him to stay part-time and play for us , but it never materialised !

quite surprising, but you got that in the good old days, but not on the same good old day... Sep and Aug for the LC, iirc....

Did you get those stats from soccerbase? For games after a certain amount of time they report all games as being played om the 30th of January. Why? Don't know...ask them.

The LC games were in the 47/48 season. Lost 8-1 away on 16th August 47, exactly 3 weeks later (6th September) beat them 7-1 at home. 3 weeks after that (27th Sept)  lost 1-0 at home to them in a league game. Bizarre.

I do understand that Soccerbase have cut some corners but the idea of all 4 games being played on the same just tickled my fancy...:oohlala
