However if discussing Rae seperately from St Mirren, then i'm glad he's gone because we were horrendous to watch when he was manager. The Rae hangover is just being removed with the new (hopefully better signings) With the exception of Sutton not one senior Rae signing or contract he extended has filled me with confidence. He signed a bunch of complete duds and it's cost us greatly long after he's vanished.

gc_SMFC
Yet we sacked Alex Rae because he played rubbish football according to people. The only thing that matters in football is results. I'm amazed by people always wanting us to play on the deck and through the back, when we don't have players capable of doing so.We've been at our most effective when we've played a yardage game, pressing and harrying the opposition into mistakes in their own half, where we can take advantage. We are unable to consistently break down teams by passing the football about.

Basically Rae left us in a dreadful state, No doubt TC will have stats suggesting that Rae is a better manager than Jack Ross but that just is not the case. We were in a a nosedive. I've heard that certain individuals were offered the gig but turned it down because they didn't want relegation on their CV. and didn't like the squad or the budget. When Jack came in we had no goal threat, no dig, no goalkeeper no defence and players like Mallan were simply waiting to leave. We are not out of the woods yet and we might still go down, but Jack has addressed all of these problems to at least some degree. Has he made mistakes IMHO yes. I wouldn't keep bringing on Clarkson,Shankland or Webster in the hope that they might one day live up to their reputations and Hutton, Walsh Hardy should have been chased much earlier. I would have played Baird instead of Webster and McLear or Orsi instead of Clarkson, or Shankland. However I also get why he felt that maybe the team was to young and needed old heads. I've been very impressed by his transfer dealings. So for me, pass marks before yesterday and pass marks to day. Sorry but I do think this post is quite delusional. Jack Ross has now had 15 league games in the championship this season; Played 15, Won 2, Drawn 4, Lost 9. 10/45 Points. Rae did not leave us with such a bad squad that all hope of competing with part-time Ayr and Dumbarton nevermind the full-time teams had to be surrendered. You say Ross should have chased Walsh sooner than he did - Walsh was barely given a chance by Ross despite the fact that his goals accounted for 50% of our league points gained until the point he was totally dropped from all involvement in the matchday squads. It doesn't particularly matter much now that Rae is away but he did have a lot of key injuries during his 6 league games: Quinn missed all of them, MacKenzie missed most of them, McAllister missed all of them, Morgan missed a few, Ben Gordon missed most of them as well, Calum Gallacher also picked up an injury early in the season. Langfield and Gallagher also threw in a couple of howlers during Rae's league games as well. Rae left such a bad squad for Jack Ross to inherit that: 1. Jason Naismith moved to Ross County for a nominal fee. 2, Lawrence Shankland went on loan to Morton 3. Ryan Hardie went on loan to Raith Rovers 4. Scott Gallacher went to Hibs 5. Derby County have paid anywhere between £200-500k for Kyle McAllister. 6. Even Calum Gallagher also moved to a club above us in the league - Dumbarton Clubs were looking at paying a fee for Stevie Mallan as well so over half of Rae's shambles of a squad have been snapped up by clubs further up the league(s) than ourselves at the moment which hardly suggests Jack Ross inherited a squad with players unable to compete at Championship level. Only Kyle Hutton has dropped down a level and Tom Walsh was released by Rangers and hasn't found himself a new club yet. When Jack Ross came in our goal scoring deteriorated as he dropped Walsh completely after a few games, threw Shankland in and dropped him again, did the same with Hardie, and dropped Sutton

No one is saying they'll help..... but the facts don't lie. I'm all for being behind the manager etc, and he has now basically revamped the playing squad. Can JR save us...... I doubt it, as the teams directly above us continue to pick up points, regardless of what we do.

Defensively we were appalling, no buddy plays (shite American term!) and it looked like we didn't know how to defend a corner. 4 out of 6 defenders that played today weren't here in December. the other issues was that, despite a good turnout, the fans hand no real rapport with the team. This wasn't a fans &a team gamlvanised performance like Falkirk all those years ago. i only hope we treat the two cup games as friendly games. Ross has to field his best 11 in both games, the team that will see us through to the end of the season barring injuries. f**k rotation etc. This is it. If we lose next week at Bayview, I expect Ross to be sacked before the Team Bus arrives back in Paisley. Maybe , better booting him out now and getting wee Gus in to save the day. Dibbles old paperboy
Even allowing for a bit of time to get to know the squad and try and build some confidence, when Ross took over 3 or 4 teams were easily within reach with more than 3/4 of the season remaining. As we approach the final quarter of the season every team in the league has increased the gap between them and us and we have only just equalled the number of points Falkirk had after 8 games and we've just surpassed Raith's total after 8 games. We continue to have a goal difference which reflects losing most games by a goal and have the worst defensive record in the league and are second lowest scorers. I suspect that with 10 new signings arriving in January that we may well sell JR chop and change the starting XI game by game and continue to field a different defence most weeks and we'll see guys like Quinn, MacKenzie, Baird, Fjelde, Clarkson, Sutton, Todd, Demetriou, Mallan, Morgan, McLear, and Gordon coming into the team for a few games and then being dropped again after 2 or 3 games. bazil85
I was a fan of bringing Jack Ross in and fully appreciated he had to sign new players. He had a terrible hand when he came here and I can't help think if I was in his position I wouldn't of touched the St Mirren job with a 20 foot pole! I do feel we seen improvement on the pitch and were exceptionally unlucky in his first games. I also fully understand the team need time to gel now that we have 10 new players. However that performance simply was nowhere near good enough. New team or not they were making basic mistakes. Tactics were appalling, playing the long ball, not passing to each other. Some of the players just simply not good enough. I know he scored but the decision to play Clarkson is beyond me. Bar his goal he added absolutely nothing to that game. Ross blamed the state of the pitch but we get humped at St Mirren Park as well, so what's the excuse there? If Ross does not win the two cup games and then Ayr United away I think we cut our losses and get rid of him. With the money and ability to bring in new players last month he should have enough to be beating teams like Ayr and Dumbarton and if he doesn't I believe there must be a manager out there that can. I was so angry after the game yesterday, two stupid, pathetic goals to concede. The team fannying about at 0-0 and 1-1 like the game didn't matter, not giving the ball back at free kicks, taking about an hour to take throw ins, no urgency from the back, just lumping the ball up to the other goalkeeper. Final point and a completely serious one. Do the players use the same ball in training as the type we play with in games? I have never seen control like it this season. It's like watching five over excited puppies chase a football around a pitch. The passing is not much better, how many errors were there? Kicking the ball out the park, passing the ball to the other team, kicking straight to their goalkeeper, just not able to put two passes together. Amateur stuff. Bud the Baker
GS saying JR will be here next season even if we're relegated is just a variation on the dreaded "vote of confidence" and if he doesn't get the new get the new guys to gell PDQ and at least make a decent attempt on 9th place I reckon he'll get the bullet - I still reckon making 9th should be the minimum and if we don't make it I'd be looking to replace him. Looking at what Ayr & Dumbarton have achieved this season show there's points available for being able to play fairly basic football whilst keeping mistakes to a minimum - ie shitfest football. It really is an indictment on JR that he hasn't been able to match the two p/t teams over 15 games.
