Harry Davis

Very good news, though it will be a nervy time for all while we wait to see if Harry has fully recovered. I think the key will be to not rush him back.

What people need to remember, though, is that we are top of the league just now, and have achieved that with the other lads in central defence. They deserve recognition and credit for that.

Spot on. Baird and Buchanan have performed admirably, despite the odd mistake, and along with the likes of Irvine, McCart and Eckersley, have ensured the centre of our defence has been able to keep us competitive.

Davis will be bursting to get back though, and I'm sure he'll be knocking on Jack's door when he feels remotely ready as he seems keen to repay the club and manager's faith in him.

I think some of our support forget what league we are in and should be realistic in their expectations.

Defenders in EVERY league make a cnut of it and the only real issue is we're still winning games and are top of the league.

Sure there are times if a player is consistently making howlers he should be scrutinised but a small touch of reality should be added when the "knee jerk" reactions are posted, even worse, unnecessarily abused at the games.

Agreed , but there's always room for improvement . Only 4 clubs in the league have more goals against than us. Back in 76-77 we were strolling to promotion but were conceding too many , so Fergie brought in big Jack, mid-season, to tighten things up. A fit Harry will walk into our starting 11 and will hopefully have the same effect as JC had back then !

Agree.

Anyone who requires further proof need only watch highlights of this weeks “invisibles” champions league match and see what spending £1.5 million on a CB gets you .

I cannot praise Baird and Buchanan enough and think that along with Eckersley, Irvine, Stelios and Smith have done a great job so far but I still want to see what Davis and GM can do and expect them to play better than Baird and Buchanan who are still learning and improving with every match played as they are youngsters not seasoned pros.

I also think Baird and Buchanan have done a great job so far, especially Baird who had come in for so much criticism. But I will be happier when Davis and MacKenzie return as they also constitute a goal threat. Would like Baird and Buchanan to add goals to their good defensive skills.

I agree 100% Billiam, there's certainly room for improvement and, IMO, IF we go up we will need to be significantly better.

The top league is hardly the English premier league but most teams would still damage us even more than we are getting punished now.

Remember Partick.

PS I've been in your boat, the SS Slightly Concerned, for most of the season, although some just think we'll continue to outscore teams.

From the Daily Ranger ....

It has been a long time coming – a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

But St Mirren defender Harry Davis is finally counting down the days until pulling back on the black and white stripes of the Buddies.

Davis hasn’t kicked a competitive ball in anger since dislocating his knee back in March, while on loan at the Paisley club from Crewe Alexandra.

But his performances were enough for Jack Ross to roll the dice and sign the Englishman permanently, despite knowing he was to remain on the sidelines for the opening three months of the
season.

And now, having been back in full training for the best part of a fortnight, Davis has been pencilled in for the Under-20s’ match with Ross County on Tuesday.

“It’s been a long time coming. Too long really”, Davis told Express Sport.

“It is nice to be back – I’ve trained for about 12 days, So far, so good.

“The knee is feeling good and it is just a case of getting the confidence back.

“I am going to try and play in the Under-20s game next week so I am just taking it as it comes.

“I am just counting down the minutes.

“I can’t wait to get back out on the pitch and repay the faith that the manager has shown in me.

“He brought me back to the club, when, in all honesty, it would have been easier for him not to.

“I am very thankful to St Mirren to be honest.

“I stayed in contact with the gaffer.

“He always wanted me back which was brilliant and gave me something to aim for.

“I was down south a lot of the time using Crewe’s facilities, but I just thought why not? I loved my time here and the move is perfect.

“I have a lot of affection for the club so I was delighted to move back up here with the family.”

Davis admits the hardest part of being out injured has been watching his teammates return to training, while he was holed up in the gym himself.

The psychological side of being injured can often be forgotten.

And Davis insists getting over an injury is a lot more than just dealing with the physical side of being out.

He added: “Words can’t describe how much I have missed being out there on the pitch.

“I think I have been driving my missus mad in the house.

“Just being in and around the lads again, rather than being in the gym alone, is brilliant.

“Being on my own sometimes wasn’t a great place.

“The mental aspect of being injured is just as difficult as the physical side of things, especially when dealing with a long term injury.

“I have had a few long term injuries so when you have them then it is tough.”

And Davis reserved a special mention for his father, Steve, and brother, Joe, who have been there every step of the way throughout his rehab.

They are both involved in football south of the border – and Davis admits they have been invaluable.

He said: “I speak to my dad on a day-to-day basis, obviously he is at Leyton Orient and my brother Joe is at Port Vale.

“It is a bit of a family affair. We always ask each other how we are getting on.

“I’m very thankful to my old man for everything. He played professionally and he has always been happy to help me out.

“I’ll take any advice from him.

“But they were both on hand to help me get through the injuries, and I can’t thank them enough for that.”

Good to hear :thumbs2

Baird and Buchanan have both done fairly well, but for me they don't work that well as a partnership, as neither of them have the confidence to dominate and lead. That's what Davis and McKenzie bring, only one of them back will make us more solid, though both back would be even better.

Fully fit , and hopes to be in the team on Saturday. Even if JR holds him back another week , it's great news.

Excellent news - any chance he'll get a wee run out for the U20's tomorrow - not that I'll be going to Perth but I had been wondering if he'd play at somepoint.

Really glad Harry is back now and ready to play but wonder perhaps if it’s worth just keeping him away from at least starting in the cup tie, I’m not sure what condition the pitch will be in and this is basically Lothians ‘Cup Final’, I’m just freaked out he gets injured again in this particular game!!

He has to start sometime and this game may be just be perfect.  With the greatest of respect to Lothian thingmie, I doubt they will prove to be world beaters.  This game (in theory anyway) should be an easier than usual competitive match.

Fingers crossed for big Harry, we need him, we really need him and I have no doubt his career needs us.  Lets us make beautiful football together, beautiful football indeed.

I think the condition of the pitch could be a worry though . I wouldn't risk him if this is the case .
