oaksoft 13,906 Report post Posted November 19, 2020 Hilarious. A couple of defeats and all of a sudden there's this desperate need to take apart and downplay our victories. Is there another country out there as good at self-abuse as the typical Scot? And we wonder why we fail as a nation at things like football....

You neatly side step the fact that we also had players out. Why this constant need for self-flagellation? We won both games. Period. Therr is no "aye but what if..." What next? Do we undermine our Euro qualification by saying "Aye but....if Serbia had fans in the stadium we'd have lost"? Can we not just enjoy a wee bit of success for 5 minutes after 22 years without feeling the need to wallow in the shite? For 85 mins against Serbia, it was the best I have seen Scotland play for a good number of years. At the final whistle my Mrs had to scrape me of the ceiling. I am still on cloud nine about qualifying. However, I am also realistic. We have a long way to go. We are still losing to the Slovakia's and Israel's of this world. Teams which an almost (minus their best striker) full strength Czech side disposed of comfortably. I am also fairly confident a full strength Czech side will dispose of us easily at the Euros (I hope I am wrong). Yes, we qualified, which I am elated about after suffering while following Scotland home and away for the last 20 years. But it merely papers over the cracks. Clarke’s results haven't been so spectacular. And most of the performances have been dross. Those 85mins against Serbia have given me hope though!

Really? 2-1 and 1-0 against Israel..........................not what I'd call comfortable. 3-1 and 2-0 against Slovakia, better but nothing I'd be worried about if I was a top team. As for us, I'd see it pretty close, certainly not "easy". Time will tell. Oh, you must be watching a different team as we have slowly, and we came from a low start, improved. I have already made the case we haven't played any real strong teams, that includes the Czech republic, but as we are in this level of teams we've only lost 2 from the last 11. We are starting to look like a decent unit, we don't have a "world class" player like Wales who have Bale for example, so Clarke has built a strong squad who are starting to believe in each other. Aye, the glory days are long gone but we are certainly in a brighter place than we have been for some time.

I'm out Oh aye, 90 minutes in a meaningless game against Krasnodar (aye, giants) when Chelsea played almost a reserve side and a whole 5 mins against Seville. Good idea your out.....................out of your tiny mind. A point well made.

Don't misunderstand my recent posts, I do think Gilmour is excellent potential but, aye, it's rich another manager trying to tell the Scotland manager to play a player who doesn't get any game time at his club.

I await, your "I'm out" reply I guess what is more relevant in terms of FS’s post, is that the particular manager in question has all but frozen Gilmour out since he arrived. Not even been getting on the bench in league matches. Most of Gilmour’s minutes this season were provided by Lampard. So whilst I agree with the sentiment of Tuchel’s comment (I’d like to see a talent like Gilmour given a squad place) I also agree with FS that he should shut the f**k up until he starts putting his money where his mouth is.
faraway saint 31,794 Report post Posted March 24 The football gods seem to be smiling on us. We got a rub of the green against the Czechs and it seem Austria will be losing quite a few German based players for the big game tomorrow night. It would be a great start to get 3 points with two "easier" game coming up straight after, although we do struggle against Israel. (Draw almost a cert)

I know fine well Austria are a decent side, but they’re not elite. Scotland have been decent enough recently too though. I was expecting much more even odds than that. Maybe Austria slight favourites even. I’ll maybe stick us on as part of a wee treble.
