That Goal!

Recommended Posts

It was an incredible goal, I wondered why he was shooting and thought he'd blootered it over. Even when it hit the net I didn't think he'd scored until the crowd reacted!

Definitely the best goal I've seen at the new ground (I wasn't at the Hearts game where Carey scored his screamer). Most of the ones mentioned on here were great individual strikes but yesterday was fantastic build-up followed by an excellent shot.

Watch it again on the footage Div posted in the 'sideboard' thread - don't watch Mallan, the ball, the strike or the net bulging - watch the two St Mirren players in the background who react by both of them putting their hands on their heads - they can't believe they just saw it... that's how good it was. Your own team are stunned. Cathartic in fact.

This deserves its own thread.

I reckon Mallan's 3rd (yes, it WAS a hattrick) is the best goal I have seen scored at the 2021 Stadium. Arguably, it is the best goal I have ever seen scored by a St Mirren player.

I'll need to see it again, but I had to give myself a wee pinch to check that it actually happened. I was sitting just to the left of the goal in the South Stand, so had a fantastic view of it. It was one of these goals that you simply have to shake your head at, as it just didn't seem plausible.

I could see the white of his eyes, and Stevie knew exactly what he was looking to do with that strike.

Arise, Sir Stevie Mallan - what a memorable hit that was!

I've played the game at all levels and honestly that is the best goal I've ever seen. The build up ... the strike .... the distance ... if it had been Messi this goal would have been shown all over the World.  As a goalkeeper by the way .... you just wave bye bye to those ... yesterdays game was the best I've seen the team I love, support, for many a year ... just a pity it's not the start of the season. God bless Stevie Mallan good chance he will be away next season but I will always remember the GOAL .... the next best ..... remember Alister McLeod scoring a goal against Cowdenbeath .... trapped the ball from a corner outside of the box the just chipped it into the top right hand corner .... quality!

It is not often we get a poster on here who has played in a World Cup and in the Champions League.

Welcome on board.

That means everyone who has ever scored for us is on an "all time top scorers list" doesn't it?

Right, here is the definition as specified in the link................

Quote

Top goalscoring and appearances

Over the years Saints have had some fine servants.
Below is a list of the top players who have contributed to the history of the club.
Included in the lists are players who have played in 200 or more competitive matches or have scored more than 30 competitive goals for the first team

I was actually close to crying with joy when that hit the net.

My young daughter who comes every home game was asleep on my lap so didn't jump up to celebrate just screamed alot through the gaps of celebrating fans in front of me saw Rory Loy with his hands on his head.

Definitely the best goal I have seen at home since we moved.

WHERE IS THIS SIDEBOARD THREAD???

Apologies if it's easy to find.

The Sideboard is a forum section in its own right at the bottom of the main forum sections page.

Head right over for cathartic moments a'plenty...
