Getting a ticket to Watch Saints in 2018/2019

Getting relegated from the top flight almost came as some sort of relief in the end for me.

Almost ten years of being in almost constant relegation battles definitely takes it's toll on you. At times I felt I was going to games because I should, not because I really wanted to.

I doubt I was alone in feeling like that.

When we went down I was looking forward to winning games again, challenging for titles or at worst being involved in play offs.

It didn't really pan out like that. The first season and a half were dreadful and we really hit rock bottom for me the day QoS came to St.Mirren Park and humped us 3-0, that was the day Jack went into the stand to have it out with one of his critics.

Ever since then the club has been transformed. We've been absolutely fantastic and great to watch, playing great football with an energy and enthusiasm that comes mighty close to the swagger of the 99-00 team. That season was the best I've ever experienced but this one is running it very close.

The feel good factor around the club is as good as it's been since then, even surpassing the feeling around the league cup win for me as the club at that point was still up for sale, there was a lot of uncertainty and our league form was still pish.

We're making good progress towards owning our own club, and we've got undoubtedly the best young manager in Scotland leading the charge.

If we can keep hold of him in the summer then we can go back to the top flight with justifiable optimism and hopefully the season ticket sales reflect that.

Football is a fickle business though, the good times don't tend to last too long at clubs our size! Enjoy it whilst it's good!!

Well expressed Div and I latgely share these thoughts. The club is in a good place after much uncertainty.Tme to enjoy rather than worry. Time to  look forward.

Of course it will be a more difficult challenge if we are in the top league. The bonus for me is that I will get to follow my team and see the top teams and best players in Scotland come to St Mirren Park. That can't be a bad thing.

Onwards and upwards.

What ideas are out there to help us fill the ground with Saint's fans and yes, make buying a season ticket the only safe way to ensure that fans can make sure they can attend games against the top teams.

Just a word on the atmosphere. .well done the drum section.

I love your optimism Ricky.  I don't think winning, losing or what league your in will affect season ticket sales. People go to the football because they are fans or "Glory Hunters".  Glory hunters don't generally buy season tickets and Fans sometimes have other priorities.

I was a die hard saints fan between 73-87 and never missed a game if I had a free Saturday.  Little things in Life like Marriage, Kids, work, location and cash flow meant football was no ,longer a priority (Mainly the wife's view but there was only ever going to be one winner). I only went to a handful of saints games between 88 and 2016.  I travelled back to Paisley with my kids to the odd Morton  game but  in the main they had no real interest in football and weren't that interested. I wasn't really part of the two title wins during this period as other things in life were far more important.

The main reason I came back were The club was fecked and it seemed like "Buy the Buds" was the only option on the table. I sort of wanted to give something back for the Happy times St Mirren had given me a kid. I was in the process of changing Jobs which meant Saturdays were mine again.  I could afford to go. The kids didn't need me and the wife had stopped nagging about me going to the football. Feck she even goes to the odd game now and again and my youngest daughter (over 18) goes every week she can.  Daddy pays of course.  My return did coincide with the arrival of Jack Ross but it was hardly a dream start watching the buds get pumped for the first few games but the great escape was immense. I'm a season ticket holder in the West stand because I love the day out and everything that goes with it not because we are winning or losing.

I think the idea that you can double the number of season ticket holders overnight is a bit of a day dream. I wish you luck in your campaign and whilst it would be nice to maintain the same seat all season, I fully expect to get F++++ed about when the terrible twins come to town because in the same way I need cash to go to the games  the club needs cash to survive.

Money makes the world go around and whilst it would be nice if we could fund the club through season tickets even the most die hard fans can't guarantee their lives can accommodate buying one and being able to turn up. Football fans are a fickle bunch and the club knows it.

On saying that,  Sign me up for renewing my ticket and I wish you well in your

5000 for 2018/19 Campain

Ricky you are a Saint. You should be canonised.

Love your post. (Last sentence  apart!)

But .... also...let's see what the board come up with to "encourage" season ticket sales.

Some ideas so far.

Include Buddiewision in the price of a season ticket.

Named seats for those who pay for reserved seats. A little extra cost.

Unreserved seating section where those paying at the gate can be accommodated making this easier for unreserved area season ticket holders to sit with friends there for a game.

Setting a numerical target for the West stand which, if reached would mean no away fans in the West Stand.

Offer season ticket + parking package.

Any others?

99/00 was great, but the best I’ve experienced (and ever likely to experience) was the Fergie’s Furies period. I’m sure those too young to remember it think us auld farts exaggerate it, make it into something it actually wasn’t, but hand on heart, we don’t exaggerate how good it was. For those three years or so, it really was magnificent.

Even in defeat, being kicked off the park at Motherwell in the cup, it was electric in Fir Park that day. The whole town was energised, the OF weren’t overly dominant forces, Christ, Clydebank FC were some team. Samba Adidas shoes on ice, beating Dundee at Dens to win the title, a team with the likes of Fitzpatrick, Stark, Richardson, Reid, Hyslop, Torrance,  McGarvey....

After that, for me, the next best thing was the 2013 League Cup, because it erased the memories of 2010, and the 1987 Scottish Cup, because it erased the memories of three painful semi final losses to the OF and Aberdeen.

1987 and 2013 were indeed cathartic moments.

Some incentives in there. I like the Buddievision idea.

Reserved and unreserved season ticket holders sounds a bit complex But the idea of Bring a bud is sound.

Name on seats. As long as Div isn't in charge. He hasn't updated the top man choices on the site. No Gavin Reilly. That could be a contract Breaker. Keep him away from seat allocation.

Having to park if you were a season ticket holder would get me into trouble. I'm no going to games Sober.

Numerical Number for west stand would have to be about it's capacity. The club will use and maybe should use every opportunity, Except admin charges on tickets, to make money.

In all seriousness though

What you need is a mechanism for sorting out the wheat from the chaff of Forum ideas and any that are realistic and may prove an incentive for fans and the club should be forwarded to the club in a formalised way. Maybe through a Supporters Liaison Officer. I'm not sure if there are any on here but presumably that's why they were created.

You have an idea and a vision but you will also need a plan if your efforts are to be successful.

You will also need some constructive ideas from this lot on here

Good luck with that!!!!

:thumbs2

That day in Motherwell was amazing if John Young's header had went in near the end the town would have exploded the atmosphere was that charged. Xmas day in Clydebank. We even dropped points that day but we were delighted to come away with the draw and getting chased out of Dundee for having the audacity to win the league on their patch was scary but immensely satisfying.

Ah those Halcyon Days!!!! Fergie's Furies

Still wear Samba's

Its going to have to be quite a step from us. The cautious can say what they want. We are up, so I am already thinking about next season.

The Premiership has been different this year, with a good Hibs, a Better Hearts, Motherwell and Sevco, Killie performing so well. So that's 7 teams including Tic have in patches good seasons. You need to add Fakes must improve, and I have a sneaky that Utd will prevail thru play offs. Can see a Dundee PO Final......

So next season its going to be really tough, we know we will need at least 5 solid players. We need a goalie another LB , more steal in midfield, a pacey winger and a solid front man. Hopefully we will continue with development of Reilly, MacG, Smith and Mullen.................

Will need to be better than at least 3 other teams, and yes that also means we wont win 222/25 games. It means we will win 10 at best . I would love us to push on. We don't have the Old Board mentality but we are hardly flush either.........

Club at the end of the seson should give the fans another target for season tickets in the west. If we hit it. No away fans in any stand other than the North.
I'd put the old firm in both the north and south stands. In the Sunday games they're are not many saints fans in the south stand and could be easily accommodated in the main stand where the language should be less course. Just need to lock the old firm in for 10mins after the game

First post.

If there was demand enough for a larger stadium, say example the club was could move forward and compete with the Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen’s of this world on a sustainable long term basis  how would the club satisfy it? Does anyone know if there are expansion continginencies built into the current stadium design?

PS I’m showing my age with my answer to the quiz question to register here.  “Who is current St Mirren manager: Alex who?” I answered “Miller.”

What happens when your favourite player drops off the list?

Would you get a message that he'd been removed or would he stay on your profile regardless?

Reason why Morton supporter I work beside doesn't want to see his team go up.

Must be horrible being a Brechin supporter.  :(.  Think they'll be relieved when season ends.

It's a tough one. You always want your team to be playing at the best possible level and of course the financial rewards there are big compared to the Championship, but it comes with a lot of baggage that isn't so much fun.

Games constantly being moved around for TV schedule, the horrible trips to Ibrox and Parkhead, the horrible atmosphere when they come to our place, the high ticket prices and the high probability that we'll probably end up fighting for our lives in a relegation scrap.

That said, if we can keep hold of Jack we'd have every reason to be optimistic that it would be better this time around. I never made it to a European away game with Saints, it's the one thing on my Saints bucket list that I haven't managed, so fingers crossed!

Ditto.  I was always offshore when we played away in Europe. :(

From my view, the biggest drawback to being in the top flight is the Old Firm. Simple as that. Yes, Hearts have some arseholes, and an away day at New Douglas Park, IMHO  is trumped by an away day at Falkirk, but what can you do? Just try to enjoy it.

There’s three scenarios for the club long-term IMHO. One, St Mirren are an established top flight club. Two, we yo-yo between the top division and the second tier, enjoying a Championship win maybe every five years(ish). Three, we drop into the second tier and float around it for donkeys years, unable to get out. Despite flirting with it, I genuinely don’t see us dropping lower than the second tier.

So, if you prefer scenario two, how can you really enjoy a Championship title if the reward for winning it is a return to the top flight you hope we don’t hang around in for too long? Would anyone really hope St Mirren win a Championship, then drop back down ASAP so we can win another one? Nah, for me, on balance, the best scenario is for us to try our best to get to, and stay in, the top flight. The biggest problem for me the last time wasn’t so much the relegation battles, it was the grim football we served up while fighting them. Played in a stadium many of us still felt wasn’t home.

Bottom line, there’s no ideal scenario, so while the OF are toxic, there’s always away days in Edinburgh, good crowds v Killie, and Aberdeen always bring a good support to our midden. The players will want to be playing at Celtic and Sevco, it has to be better commercially, Jack will want it.

If we are fighting relegation, so be it. I just hope we give a good account of ourselves and try to play some fitba’.....

.....Edit: and avoid any 7-0 style gubbings by the ugly sisters. Don’t mind losing if we fought hard, but cannae’ be doing with those roll over and play dead days.

I sort of see us as in between the first 2. I don't see us yo-yoing that frequently but have a good run in the top flight but some year we'll go down and have to rebuild. Will happen to everyone, with a 12 team league and 2 possible slots to go down, there is always a chance you can go out of it. Take Hibs recently and Dundee United too. . I don't think there are many clubs that you could say are comfortably established and don't worry about relegation- Motherwell and Killie have both been in the top flight for years but have dodged the bullet on numerous occasions.

That aside- on the OF issue, I'd be tempted to do what Killie do - give them the 2 ends and take the cash. Not sure there is ever a family atmosphere on those days so could be missed out of the south ST or transfers to main. I'll admit, probably not a popular opinion, but if it gives us an extra £40k, I can understand why that's difficult to turn down when our fans don't pack the place out.
