I don't agree with him but I think he was making the point that United have a Players Budget which is some £500000 higher than e.g. St Mirren. Theoretically then this allowed them greater choice in signing players. There is some truth in that statement but that doesn't mean that they were successful in their signing policy and alternatively if they had been then the Team is greatly underperformibg. By jove I recall it like it was yesterday and by the last ten minutes I was punchng the air and I finished with a lump in my throat and a wee tear in my eye. A similar lump and tear combo will appear when we are once again confirmed as league champions. A few of the many memories from that wonderful season, Scott Walker sprinting the full length of Cappielow to head a goal, young Steven McGarry scoring a stoating belter away at Livingston, Junior Mendes winner away at Raith Rovers, playing in the strips of a lower class team, Hugh Murray's juggle ball goal V the Bankies, actually playing against the Bankies, Paul McKnight's winner away at Ayr, Jens Paeslack before he stole the watch and that day we won it V Raith at Love Street with goals from Mark Yardley, Steven McGarry and Barry McLaughlin. The aftermatch celebration with Steven McGarry and Ricky Gillies sporting tearfilled eyes. Whilst I am delighted that we have romped this league, I was getting a bit miffed with their Chairman still saying they could WIN the league 5 days ago. They all seem to be in denial..........
