That's a pity I kinda hoped the riders spent the day relaxing in an opium den or something similar...……………….

Too much opium for Chaves yesterday as he falls completely out of the picture losing 25 minutes.  Yates (3secs) & Pinot (2secs) managed to sneak sprint bonuses.

Froome back in Top 10 but admits Giro win unlikely.

Quote

Chris Froome says his bid to hold all three Grand Tour titles concurrently is not "likely" after crashes hampered his first week in the Giro d'Italia.

The Team Sky rider wants to add the Giro to the Tour de France and La Vuelta crowns he won last year.

But he is two minutes 27 seconds behind race leader and fellow British rider Simon Yates of Mitchelton-Scott.

"It is a big gap," Froome told Team Sky's website. "I wouldn't say it's likely at this point."

However, he added: "Stranger things have happened. We've got some extremely tough racing coming and we've got a long time trial as well."

Aside from needing to make up ground on the pink jersey, Froome who is 11th, trails defending champion Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) by one minute 49 seconds.

Froome admitted after his tumble in Jerusalem that he was not firing in all cylinders . Maybe he wont come good til the Tour in July . Anyway , young Simon continues to do us proud by leading the Corsa Rossa. .

Viviani wins todays stage to go 40 points clear of Bennett in the Points Classification making him a strong favourite for this category.

Chaves loses another 15 mins today coming in last by himself (by 5 mins) - any talk of him being a super-domestique for Yates is surely misplaced. Best to let Chaves retire before we hit the mountains tomorrow.

Three mountain stages then the procession around Rome to go.

Viviani must have the Points Classification in the bag, if he can stay in the saddle.

The Maglia Rosa is Yates' to lose now...…………………

For a guy in preparation for Le Tour & suffering a few crashes along the way Froomey's  done remarkably well - easy £2million!

Meanwhile cult hero Adam Hansen is en route to completing his 20th consecutive Grand Tour - currently 56th:notworthy:clapping

Just done a wiki check - his best ever is 53rd - Come on Eileen Adam!

The cycling podcast were last night reporting that Paisley had been interested in bidding for the Grande Partenza in 2020 but now Cardiff is looking like they will bid and we have withdrawn because they will be too strong to compete with.

How amazing would that be to have a Grand Tour in town?

I still think Yates can do it but he will need to keep his wits about him and be ready to respond . Even if he doesn't win it , he has still had a fantasic Giro . It has possibly been the most open race in years so far , which is great from a spectators point of view but maybe they should shorten the length of the stages and make them a bit punchier like the Vuelta , which is better from a spectators point of view. .

very sad Yates has cracked,  over 12 minutes down, froome is doing an amazing ride out on his own and is possibly
riding in to the pink jersey today, hope that this is not tarnished with the salbutamol thing hanging over
him, nevertheless this is a spectacular effort by froome and I for one hope he wins the giro and holds
all three grand tour titles at the same time.
WTF! Just turned on eurosport and no mention on the graphic for Yates. 12 mins, jeez.

Mustve been some asthma attack froome had last night...
