I agree.

If JR has done a deal without getting permission from the board, who then get stuck with only pennies in compo, then I'd say that JR has done us a major disservice.  Yes, he has performed admirably and that was rewarded with more resources and at least 2, possibly 3 improvements in his remuneration package.   You would think that he would have told Sunderland he was happy to talk if they could agree terms in principle with the saints.

Sad though, that with all this success and speculation, we waited until he was on the costas before tabling an improved deal.

Our improved deal would make absolutely no difference to what Sunderland can offer.

Just now, Kemp said:

But tabled a month ago, in the absence of other offers at the time, it may well have been signed.

To be honest, it must be hard to enforce a compensation figure that greatly outstrips what you have previously valued your manager at.  in effect, you are asking him to don a pair of handcuffs that prevent him from exerting his right to take his labour where he sees fit unless you get 3 or four times more than you were ever likely to pay the manager himself.  Such payments really focus on goodwill and we have heard over the years of players (less so managers) insisting on a hefty fee for a selling club before they agree to talk to prospective new employers.  I would hope that Ross would be decent enough to have made that gesture to the club that gave him such a fantastic platform.  It's seemingly not all over yet though so maybe he has done the right thing.

However, St Mirren chairman Gordon Scott has said there has "been no contact from Sunderland".

He said: "Jack is on holiday. So unless there is some major skulduggery going on then it's nonsense.

"To hold talks with Jack, we would have to grant permission, but we've had no contact from Sunderland at all."

This is the take from the BBC website which suggests Jack is lying on his St Mirren towel somewhere on a sun lounger in the Med whilst GS is wandering about his kitchen still in his dressing gown and supping a coffee oblivious to all this 'Fake News' being regurgitated on Black and white army.

Nothing to worry about here Lads......
