Pat Liney ?

Remember watching him play for Bradford Park Avenue against Spurs on MOTD during the late sixties , and my dad saying the keeper was a Paisley lad .

That was Bradford City Griff , 2-2 in the first game with Bobby Ham scoring twice for Bradford , Greavsie put them to the sword in the replay !

Hello chaps, Darlington fan here. Have just been having a read of your thread and thought I might chip in as I can see there’s differing thoughts on his signing.

He has the potential to be a very good player, very young for a centre back but he is 6’5 so dominant in the air, is still fairly quick, reads the game very well and is pretty comfortable on the ball as well.

I’m joking of course but unless you have 6’7 strikers in the Scottish Premiership he ain’t going to lose anything much in the air and is going to cause havoc going forward for set pieces.

As for the comments on the fee - I’m afraid you wouldn’t have got him for any less and I think you’ve done rather well. Supply and demand on that one and he was very much in demand. I can tell you first hand that he’s been watched by Fulham, Middlesbrough and Everton and apparently was one of the stand out players at the V9 academy. We didn’t especially need to sell him. As much as you guys think it’s a risk to pay for a non league player I can tell you I was (no offence intended) pretty surprised he chose to come to St Mirren, although in hindsight I think it’s a very good move for both parties.

Anyway, the intent of coming in here was to tell you that I’ve watched him play probably about 30 games now and after 3 I could have told you he’ll be a very good player. Stick with him, remember he’s still young for a centre back and take care of him as we need the money from the sell on clauses!

All the best!

Best of luck with the forthcoming season(s).  Darlo are a smashing club in a town very similar to Paisley in size and they even play in black and white.

Haven't been to a Darlo game for a while now, I visited Phetams (did I spell that right?) many a time, wandering down through market square via the cricket bit.  Last time I was in that ground Marco Gabbadini (did I spell that right?) played a blinder.  Only visited the arena once and that was when Darlo played the mighty Mirren pre-season, what a stadium that was.  Couple of years ago I went to an away match (Bishop Auckland was it?), sitting in a pub in market square (hole in the wall, it was a proper boozer once but now a fancy dan buftie place) I wandered over to the Dolphin centre and found myself on a bus to the game.

Anyway Darlo are a great club and I truly wish you all the very best, hope to see you back in the league soon.

PS:  The Tapas bar is very good and the pub next door is rather reasonable....£2.80 a pint!  Only issue being that the English beer is piss water but cheap piss water so not all bad

Craig coached Marwood as a youth at Newcastle.

It was actually the fact that TC was best pals with Brian Marwood, his dad. The same link also brought us Plummer and Drury from City...I think Marwood was head of youth there.

To some, for most, it's about winning games.   We shouldn't pre-judging our new recruits or at least make them feel welcomed.

Would you be saying the same thing if we signed a convicted rapist or paedophile?

I am just wondering where you draw that particular line.

If we signed Goodwillie or Craig Thompson at their peak would you want us to just ignore their bavkground?

Welcome to the new recruits and great that we have extended Kyle''s contract, not forgetting resigning our young winger.  Things are shaping up. I will leave the moralising to others but look forward to our players getting the results we need and showing an example by their off field behaviour in their time with Saints.

Good to see these younger players coming to saints, i believe we already have enough experienced players in McKenzie, McGinn x 2, McShane and Eckersley. And these new players seem just what we need to build a squad and have decent competition for places. Hope they all turn out good.

Incidentally i saw Duncan Ferguson in Ikea today.

FFS,  what utter rubbish to come up with.     To  even suggest St.Mirren  would go that low.   I don't draw the lines, I don't sign the players.

It's their ability as footballers  being questioned by others I'm talking about.      At least our players are showing faith in our manager, when some of our support don't.

Nice one  Kyle.
