League Opener

Recommended Posts

With the league fixtures out this Friday who do you want as our opponents ? For me I'd be happy with Kilmarnock at home - decent atmosphere with a big crowd.
Would it really??? seeing as we already play Kilmarnock first game of season I think the decent atmosphere and big crowd might not be there as it is we will definitely play them 4 times next season this gets a bit boring like it did in the championship.

Wasn't that our opening SPL fixture after our millennium season promotion ?

We lost that day and set the tone for the rest of that season. :(

You beat me to it.

My memory though is that we pummelled them 0-1 and were pretty unlucky to get beat.

We had a lot of games when the rub of the green went against us - and injuries cost us as well. Ian Ross was a big injury miss for us I think (although maybe thats black and white tinted specs).

According to a reliable source our opening day fixture is home to Hearts

Full opening day fixture list:

Aberdeen v Livingston

Celtic v Dundee

Hamilton Academical v St Johnstone

Hibernian v Motherwell

Kilmarnock v Rangers

St Mirren v Heart of Midlothian

Last year's opening games involved the promoted team playing the team that came 6th.

Extrapolating my theory (good that init?) the following may happen.

That would be St. Mirren v Hearts for this season.

Looking at the way the SPL started last season, Celtic v Hearts would be Celtic v Kilmarnock this season.

Last season Aberdeen v Hamilton, would be Aberdeen v Livingston (Partick were second bottom)

Last season Motherwell v Rangers, would be Dundee v Rangers.

Last season  St. Johnstone v Kilmarnock, would be Hibs v St. Johnstone.

Last season Dundee v Ross County,  would be Motherwell v Hamilton.

Then wit do I know? I just think I'm Albert Einstein.

Think your reliable source is Johnnie Walker

Spot on Chalky. Killie,  Hibs or Rangers ,unless GLS has arranged otherwizs,  at Home would bring a big crowd to the home of the Champions.

Don't want Rangers, it should be a day for us to celebrate returning to the top flight, 3 stands full (almost) with saints fans.

Yes it was. Big Yardley either hit the post or missed a sitter and they snatched a goal against the run of play.

As you say set the tone for the season.

I'd happily settle for Hearts. Bit of an extra edge with a former Hibbe Manager in charge of Saints.
