Agree on being close to having two players for each position. Still to see Magennis and Eckersley play this season.

Grumpy Old Fan
On 7/11/2018 at 12:31 PM, Wendy Saintss said: I would disagree entirely. I remember all the way to 1979 when we signed an experienced winger called Johnny Dempster. We also had an experienced centre half at the time, Andy Dunlop. We had a very poor start to that season which culminated in us getting knocked out of the League Cup at home to lower Division Hamilton after winning the away leg 2-0 at Douglas Park. The response was to promote a young winger, signed from the juniors, by the name of Peter Weir. We also promoted a young centre half called Mark Fulton. Neither had any experience to note. Dempster & Dunlop never featured again. We went on to finish 3rd, our highest ever league placing. So dramatic was the turnaround that the poor start actually cost us the title itself. All I can reading is that folk want us to sign "experience". I don't care about experience. All I want is for us to sign good players. And players do not need any experience to be good! Have no recollection of this Dempster guy at all. Agree with your assessment though. Experience is OK but it does not top good quality players. You seriously think Heaton is better than McKenzie ???? He looked like a very raw "project" and that was against a Spartans team offering next to nothing. Nowhere near ready for Premier league football on that showing. What formation is that You have 3 full backs playing (Coulson, McGinn and Eckersley)

kevo_smfc
Have to feel for Kirkpatrick. Was probably at a half way house between impressing enough to be kept in squad or loaned out. He certainly impresse vs Kilmarnock last week. The season will have started and Stubbs already may be looking to fill the void he has created with being injured. billyg
Quote The story goes that in the summer of '79 we had signed Somner and McDougall for a combined fee of £280k , Clunie's budget was 300k and he wanted Bobby Houston from Thistle , but they wanted £100k for him at that time. QOS wanted £30 k for Dempster , a similar but older player than Houston , but agreed to £25k and we paid that !
