Dominic Raab - New Brexit Secretary

Bud the Baker

Recommended Posts

Dominic Raab, founder member of Ultra Right Wing pressure group Britannia Unchained is the new Brexit Secretary after David Davis's resignation, all I can say is if the BU group gets control of Westminster then as Long John Baldry said "them as dies 'll be the lucky ones".

Further questions include what next for the PM and will Boris resign?

Edit - Boris has resigned even as I typed!

************************

Despite being the least competent PM/Govt. in 50 years neither Labour or the SNP seem able to land a significant blow. :(

This Brexit pish just gets worse and worse.  Could be a worrying sign that the "hard" brexiteers are making headway now and could turn an already bad decision into a horrendous one.

Seriously past caring:death

IF/When England wins WC, it will get even worse....................

Maybe England might vote to leave Planet Earth , do some trade deals with other Galaxys.

Here is hoping

This is deep down, very serious somewhere,  if it wasn't so pathetically laughably point and abuse comedic.  These cnunts should all be sacked for gross incompetence and a complete abdication of democratic accountability. Disgraceful.

All we need now is Eng**** to ...................:zipit

Its not serious................. its just what the Tories do- kill each other and do power struggles.  So May has announced her " Brexit" which is so soft its a 2 minute egg, hmmmmmmm , and Boris leaves hmmmmmm, AS USUAL- no care to what Brexit was/is... bar power.....

EU- LTAO at us.......   Takes 2 years to get a plan, when we get one , the govt divides and they propose ridiculous policies on the market that will never pass..........

Its all a game- so who cares- I have a Plan B

Yup as DJ says above somehow TM seems to have come out of yesterdays shenanigans stronger (in the sort term anyway) clinging on to her one real policy - to remain PM as long as possible.

I guess it remains to be seen ow much of "The Masterplan" will be acceptable to the EU. :toilet

No 10 confirms government accepting all 4 ERG amendments to customs bill

Downing Street has confirmed that the government is now accepting all four ERG amendments (see 3.30pm). They are all consistent with the government’s Brexit white paper, Number 10 says.

FFS!

Well that’s Govt. policy until next week!

At least the last scenario is unlikely to happen. Come to think of it, it may be more likely than having a good EU exit. That is what it is. The "Brexit" buzz word is just that.  No one knows what it means. People fell for the trendy new word and the lies that went with it.

I really believe if they reran the referendum a very different outcome would happen now the lies about controlling borders and giving a massive windfall to the NHS have been stripped away. Reality is a sharp shock.

The Commons has voted to ensure the UK has a separate VAT system to the European Union after Brexit.

Ayes: 303

Noes: 300

Majority: 3

There were 14 Tory rebels on NC36. Govt won by three votes including Guto Bebb, who has resigned from the government over its acceptance of the ERG amendments.- around 14 Labour MPs didn't take part.

Government clinging on by its fingernails.

A chance to force a Vote of Confidence and around 14 Labour MPs didn't take part. :toilet Shocking!

labour don't want an election this year.

Scenario A- they lose an autumn election and it's curtains for Corbyn as we face the prospect of 12 years of tory rule.

Scenario B-they win and Corbyn is left to clean up a mess that he helped to create by his stance on Europe.  He fails after just a few months and it's curtains for Corbyn

Scenario C  No election in the near future, the tories literally run the country into the ground and Labour wins the 2022 election as a protest vote.  Things are so bad they can't help but look like a success (for a while)

The Labour Party doesn't exist anymore. Corbyn is more pro Brexit than Theresa May. He is a gas bag that is content to read out letters from constituents at PMQ to ensure he doesn't let his mask slip.

Govt. loses amendment to keep us in EU medicines network - I'm probably a bit of a thicko but why would you want to be out of that sort of arrangement?

Government loses Brexit votes as MPs backing keeping UK in EU medicines network

The government has lost the vote on Philip Lee’s amendment, saying the government should have to negotiate an agreement for the UK participate in the European medicines regulatory network partnership between the EU. (See 5.46pm) The amendment was passed by 305 votes to 301 - a majority of four.

Theresa May says I ain't taking no Euro Sickness Remedy! :spud2

This is only the second government defeat in the Commons on Brexit.

************************

However they win the biggie 307-301. :( As per last night it'll be interesting to see how MPs voted on both sides.

Edit - Similar to last Night 12 Tory Ayes & 4 Labour Noes (sic).

Apparently the Tory chief whip told the Remainer rebels that if the government lost Amendment 18 there would be a confidence vote. If you're a Labour MP why would you forego a chance to bring down this Govt. (incompetent & rabidly right wing) by voting for a Bill that everyone knows is just fantasy politics. Surely a tactical vote on the issue to force a Vote of Confidence and possibly a GE makes more sense?

The labour 4 might be voting to order with the purpose of keeping May on the hook but not quite landed for a few more days.  That way, her agonies continue and the tories look worse and worse in the eyes of the electorate.

Or maybe they're no' that bright and don't understand how to vote on an amendment.

Meanwhile…………………..

  • May admitted that some aspects of her facilitated customs arrangement plan might not be ready by the end of 2020, when the transition period is due to end. Asked about this, she said:

The majority of what is required for this facilitated customs arrangement will definitely - as we have indicated - be in place by December 2020. There is a question as to the speed with which the repayment mechanism would be in place. So far the suggestion is that could take longer to be put into place. That has yet to be finally determined.

FFS!

As an aside DD said in is resignation speech he wouldn't have resigned (sic) if May had made the concessions she later made to the ERG at the big Chequers pow-wow! :whistle
Has Boris mentioned that he's broken the ministerial code by taking a job with the telegraph since he quit last week.

First, blocking his return to journalism was not part of the resignation agreement. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and he's not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss TPAFKATS.

Thanks Bud. To be honest, I feel quite soiled after reading that.

Pairing row wrt Tuesday night's vote is beginning to rumble,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Quote

Robert Peston, ITV’s political editor, says he has also been told by a source that Julian Smith, the Conservative chief whip, ordered an MP to break a pair on Tuesday night. The government, of course, is claiming that the pair was broken as a result of an honest mistake.

Edit

Quote

This is what Andrew Bridgen, the Conservative MP, told the Daily Politics a few minutes ago when asked what he thought actually happened in the broken pair incident. (See 12.23pm.) He said:

I think the fact that Brandon Lewis abstained on six votes and then just mysteriously voted on the vital two - I think it tells you all you need to know.

***********************

Latest Govt explanation......................

Quote

1. Ready for this explanation? Tory sources say chief whip considered but did not go through with telling any MPs on short term pairs to vote even though they weren’t meant to

2. But Julian Smith did, by accident, they say, tell Brandon Lewis to vote, breaking the long term pair of Jo Swinson
