norrie82
I have no problem with two or three loans complimenting our side but potentially we are going to have far too many who have no real feeling for our club. They are here to learn or get game time and this is a recipe for disaster. The emotional attachment we have with this club can’t be strengthened by supporting a team of loan players you don’t even own.

The forums in meltdown, although it does show that football supporters are a bit simple. ((C)) Captain)

Knightswoodsaint
Another thread about loanee players. As mentioned on the other thread is there really that much difference from a 1 year loan player to a player on a 1 year contract

A player on a 1 year contract is trying to play well to stay at the club and be offered a new contract. A loan player is trying to impress his parent club so he can disappear at the end of the season and play for them. The only way we get to keep a loan player for the following season is if he’s hopeless and his club don’t want him back

As it stands the loanee market can open up players we may not alternately had a sniff at. Hodson for example willlock will come good ok maybe others we missed out on Stewart going to Killie so for me they are similar markets as both players are ultimately trying to impress for at worse selfish reasons that’s football

I wouldn't be surprised if some of Jack Ross' target had been this type of player, eg Paul McGinn was one of two signings announced before Ross took the Sunderland job. Actually that makes an interesting point. To succeed at this level we need a manager who is a first rate coach AND has first rate networking skills. Without the latter, the former has no chance of success and maybe this is why a lot of clubs are using directors of football. Is the lack of good signings just down to finance? Or is Alan's network not strong enough to get in the players he wants? If it's the latter, are we in a position to use a sliver of the McGinn money to hire someone who has better contacts than Alan in order to help him during the January window? In other words, is a different approach needed here? Edited August 29, 2018 by oaksoft
