Hasn't even been announced yet, no idea of the remit or role he will be fulfilling, and yet it's put the boot in time anyway

GLS says that it will be an almost invisible role for Gus , I can live with that if we turn things around on the park .

I think an announcement is due this afternoon so hopefully we'll get some clarity on what the role entails.

My fear is that I'm seeing the John McGinn money disappearing down the plughole, fast!

So its an invisible role?

Gus is getting paid to do, say and offer nothing? Jobs for your mates i suppose then. Makes Its just like the Tory party!

Wow even more spin from LPM. Coupled in with an accusation that GLS is paying him a wage only because he’s a mate. I for one am shocked... :boo2:

The latest Chairman's update notes:

"The board have a vision of how they want the club to develop. At present we have a plan but not the man power to define and execute it.

"Gus is someone I worked with closely when I was on the board previously and he has the experience and knowledge we are looking for in the newly created role.

Sharing some of the details of this vision and plan with the supporters would be nice. Is there a job specification for the Technical Director role? Was a full recruitment process followed? What happens if we're relegated and the income available drastically reduces - is this role likely to be first to go?

Welcome back Gus. A true club legend.

Think this is an excellent and slightly bizarre appointment by the board. We have two ex managers managing the current manager. What a weird situation.

There’s one of two things going on here.

Either Gus is the manager and this is a sneaky way of Gordon getting his mate back in the hot seat without inciting the ire of a large section of the fan base. Kearny is a show pony. There to arrange the cones, do the interviews and clap the fans after the games.

Or.. Kearny is the manager and the board have absolutely no faith that he is up to it. Note none of our managers before needed a technical director... and Gus is there to be that and will step into the breach if things go tits up.

Not sure what’s the most likely. Either way, the appointment of Oran makes far more sense now.

Or maybe they were that concerned about how shite Stubbs was and decided to avoid the same problem in future?

So Gus has been brought back to be Tony and Oran's butler?

Didn't you hear? Back when he was manager he made some absolute belters of cups of tea. That was the main reason Andy Dorman and Garry Brady joined us.

Lex, you know we're cool.

You don't half talk some pish at times, though.

Very much reminds me of the Levein/Cathro situation at Hearts.

Cathro was an inexperienced guy who had never played or managed at full time level. He was the ‘manager’. Just like Kearney.

Levein was a respected ex manager and played of said club and had been kicking around for years. He was the ‘director’. Just like Gus.

Levein was seen to be passing instructions down from the posh seats to the touchline during games on more than one occasion. He was clearly pulling the strings. Things go wrong, Cathro gets the bullet and the new manager is of course, Craig Levein.

Two very different situations Lex.

OK has 7 years of management experience. Regardless of part time or full time, that's 7 more years of experience (PT or FT) than Cathro had when he took the Hearts role on. He may be inexperienced at FT level, but he's certainly not an inexperienced manager. Not by a long shot.

Cathro also came under a LOT of intense scrutiny off the bat as he was very much a 'do what the stats on my laptop say' type of manager and wasn't renowned for his adaptability and this ultimately cost him. He didn't really have the people skills that Kearney seem's to be getting talked up on.

Will it work out for Kearney? Who knows? It might, it might not. The comparisons to Cathro though are tenuous at best.
