Obviously Scott will bring him in if he wants to , but I will never support him , he's burnt allhis bridges !
santaponsasaint
I think it's a good move. His experience and his eye for a decent player will be a great help to OK and the club. Can't do worse in recruitment than we've had with Stubbs. Welcome back Gus.

Alongside that our first League Cup final since the 50s, and a first Scottish Cup semi since 1987. He definitely left us in a better place than when he joined. That requires a decent manager. Drew
If he were to get the job, I certainly hope that his attitude to the youth set up has changed since he left the club. It did leave a fair bit to be desired.

Then we bring divisive Gus in to help , you couldn't make it up. Have we forgotten that he left the bench short on some occasions because he wasn't keen on having to play or involve the youngsters. This played a big part in his sacking. We don't want or need him ! Might not necessarily be him though Billy. Even if it is, I don't think it's a given he'll automatically not be able to do the role that no one is 100% sure what the responsibilities are. Do you not think that a host of managers, coaches and scouts throughout the UK wouldn’t have seen him play and know all about him? Carroll was on loan at Championship Preston in the first half of 07/08 and was a regular in Newcastle’s Premiership squad thereafter. I’m not exactly sure when you think this loan would have taken place! I don't really give a shit, tbh. I think the original comment/story was based on Gus' unwillingness to countenance/look into a suggestion. Maybe he was inundated with fans acting as scouts for him and was at the end of his tether. Maybe Kenny caught him on a bad day. I was merely helping to verify the story. For the record, I'm pretty much ambivalent to the idea of Gus taking over and would be prepared to give him a chance. Certainly I'm not one of the pitchfork wielders.

shull
I remember Gus's young prodigy scoring a wonder goal and winner against DEID AS A DODO FC (1873-2012) on the 5th Day of October 2008. I have never celebrated a goal more. THANKS WEE BALDY
djchapsticks
I find it a bit rich that folk will use a guys philosophy from 10 years ago as a stick to beat him with. I can safely say I have changed in both outlook and behaviour in a decade, isn't it possible that Gus has as well? He's been in charge at Queen's Park for a few years now and they deal almost exclusively in youth players. Any shortcomings (and they were shortcomings) in his philosophy about youth players may well not be there anymore as he's been forced to change his mindset. I'd still rather have Jimmy Nicholl though.

Instead Gus lead his team to a stunning 4-0 victory, to date one of the greatest nights in my time as a St Mirren fan. But that's positive and the anti-Gus brigade would rather focus on one match in his 7/8 years at the club. Likewise let's forget he took a shit Championship side and turned them into an established SPL side. The man has plenty to offer, unfortunately the Gus haters will use any excuse to make him look bad. A great victory that night indeed. However taking it in the rounds Mowbray fielded FIVE strikers that night to try and save his ass. It backfired. And if it was just one match, or one or two issues i would agree with you. But his time has been and gone now. Hence why, with all that great experience you laud him for, he's been relegated to the bottom league. he had a good run, but he's a negative influence from a bygone era. What was a negative influence from him? Was he ham-fisted in what he said at times and a crabbit wee shite? Yeah, probably but I don't recall any issues or disputes coming out of the dressing room at any point in Gus' tenure until the bonus row in the lead up to the cup final (incidentally, a bonus row led by our ex manager who left under a cloud but has also redeemed himself in the eyes of most* supporters). For the most part his players were fiercely loyal to him and the club. You don't hang about for 7 years at a club if you are detested or a bad influence. As we've seen lately, you're lucky to get 7 weeks. *most... but not including you.
Guest TPAFKATS
Anyone else think this is starting to sound like a Cathro/Levein set up. They've gone and found the least experienced manager, who can be persuaded to take the job on under any circumstances and really he's just a puppet to Gus who's going to pick the team and tactics. No.I genuinely don't think our new manager will be a puppet.
Drew
Which other clubs in the league have a director of football/technical director type set up? I've always thought that it seems a bit of overkill for a club of our size.

norman
Gus was a great manager for St Mirren, one of the best. Took us from relegation battlers in the first division to an established Premiership team and made us contenders in the cups for the first time since the 80s. The fact he didn't give a f**k what a few whinging cunts in our support thought of him and treated them with the utter disdain they deserved was also a massive bonus. All that of course would only be relevant if he was coming in as a manager, but he's not.
