Does anyone have any rough idea what a consultant would be charging for managing the training for a large company?

Daily rate/hourly rate?

Depends on a number of factors.  Top Consultancy Rates might be 1500-2000 a day.  Second tranche 500 - 1000 a day.  Third tranche is mainly 350 pounds.

Certainly these were around a couple of years ago.

It would depend firstly on the type of training required and at what level, different industry sectors command different rates of pay for their training.

It's mainly SVQ qualifications and apprenticeships.

Main role would be assessing the current skills, liaise with training providers to provide the suitable SVQ qualifications.

Similar for apprenticeships, provide training plans, assessment and eventual placements.

It's all new for this company so a tad fluid.

Not the higher levels but still substantial.  Probably 350 to  500 a day but may be more for designing and creating materials.

Lots of people in this market.

That sounds like a touch of jealousy

A wee story.  A old colleague of mine was head of engineering services at a public body and he needed a very specialist engineer.  He approached his Director and requested that one be appointed on a Principal Engineer's salary scale.  The Director laughed and said "just keep using the consultant".  When my friend said it's costing a lot of money the Director laughed again and said "your just jealous because we're paying  him more than you".  The reponse was"paying him more than me - we're f/n paying him more than you".  I'll leave you to guess the outcome.
