Balmullo Bud
BBC reporting Popesco now in limbo with the Oran situation!Has been in my mind too since the Kearney rumours started; who the manager is can sway players signing or not. Be gutted if we missed out on him.
kevo_smfc
The manager will have no impact on Mihai. I think it would still be a board decision to sign him if he is affordable. They see him as a potential sellable asset going by GS' interview with Raman last week.
Tommy
Surely we wouldn't have brought him back over for a week training unless an agreement had been made to sign him for next season would they ?

How is him reporting for the last week of his loan deal a board ‘clusterf**k?’ He gave absolutely no new information away regarding if the deal is on or off. It’s a non-story. While this is true, it would also be true for every other loan player we had. Loan players don’t often turn up for a week of training then return to their parent club, it would be pretty pointless. Technically you are correct, but it’s an unusual situation. Unless Dinamo are that financially f**ked they wanted us to pay Mihai’s wages until the very end! Even if your last sentence was true it would make more sense for Saints to pay the wage without paying for accommodation and travel.

Seems his club aren't convinced yet, and that he wants to see what the fall out of Kearney getting his jotters is. If you think about it where is the money coming from fir a hefty transfer and compensation settlement?

If you think about it where is the money coming from fir a hefty transfer and compensation settlement? The fact Mihai was at training today definitely makes me think there are negotiations going on. As you say, where is the money coming from? Dinamo must have budged on their £350K, but by how much? And if we end up paying Kearney compo, then will that kill the Popescu deal off? I like Popescu a lot, but I really hope we’ve dropped that 350K by a large margin, no player is worth paying over the odds for in our position. I’d like to think the Popescu deal will still be in progress despite what’s ongoing with OK.As for the finance side is anyone’s guess, but if OK is walking away from a contract terms and conditions that he signed, hopefully there won’t be compensation for him that would ultimately eat into the transfer budget. IMO.

Cornwall_Saint
Perhaps it was written into Popescu’s contract that he wasn’t allowed to go back to Romania while he was on loan to us, hence why he’s still training with us

oaksoft
I don't like speculation but it is useful to consider what we can be fairly sure of. Either Saints or Oran has to have precipitated this situation. If it was Oran, and Coleraine were at the heart of it, we'd have heard by now. Absolutely guaranteed Saints would have put out a press release saying we were either seeking compensation because no bid had been made, not entertaining a bid at all or that the bid wasn't high enough. The other alternative is that the club have precipitated this. In that case, it can only be breach of contract by Oran, breach of contract by the club or a genuine grey area needing legal clarification. Regardless, if it is the club which has done this at this stage of the season, with players contracts running out this week, with only a few weeks to go the start of the season, a friendly due on Friday, with the CEO and chairman knowing they were both out of the country, you would expect to hear nothing from them as they try to rescue something from a self-induced disaster. Which is exactly what we are hearing. On the balance of probabilities, I'm going with the latter at the moment but I'm not speculating on the exact cause because, like everyone else including journalists, I know nothing about it.
