I personally dont get pleasure from. Taking alcohol.  Why then do people drink it?

I do drink and enjoy it, I dont drink what I don't like, I don't like wine,  vodka or lager; but love malt whisky and drambuie, I like sherry and some beers, I think the thing about any vice (if one considers drink or whatever a vice) is moderation and circumstance. ie; I don't drink if I am driving, I didn't drink when at work and in moderation at certain 'happenings' such as weddings, funerals etc.  Actually it's a little like sex; a surfeit of it is OK some times and in some circumstances.B)

How on earth do you get to 73 years old, have 30,000 LinkedIn followers, spend a lifetime travelling from one glittering ambassadors party to the next and not know the answer to this basic question?

I fail to believe that supporting St Mirren hasn’t driven you to the pub at least once, Ricky. Not even tempted when we won the cup? :cheers

Truthfully no but that doesn't mean that I didn't have a great time.

Doesn't mean that I expect others to do the same.

I get this approach Jaybee. This makes sense to me.

I'm not moralising or suggesting people shouldn't take any alcohol as,  I see,  you have picked that up.

I know a fair number of people who like a drink but choose their circumstances with care.

Others I know seem to enjoy it without causing themselves or others bother.

Had my first beer in 10 weeks last weekend, 1st went down a treat, after 3 beers I decided to head home after work. Doesn't bother me if I have a drink or not, sometimes I wake up on Sunday and think I'll head to the pub for a beer or 3. A few hours later i'm still in the house not bothered that I haven't went out.

I love the taste of some of it Ricky. A fine Malt, a fine wine, a cold beer and the rest.....

I  enjoy a nice drink ,  a chill and a mood

Watch these ads, I am sure your the guy in the soft top Beetle

Oh the memories came flooding back. I fair enjoyed reminiscing about ma Capri, My speedboat and a few anytime, anyplace, anywhere girls. Don't think any of them drank Martini though.  Anyone remember Bezique, Volari or Babysham which at one time or another were the in drinks .

Not sure how to approach this complex question on a forum but in the pub the logic would be.

People drink for many reasons but the previous generation. which in my case would be yours Ricky. set the example to their kids.

Most of my generation were following the example of your generation who did not exactly adhere to responsible drinking and taught your youngsters how to drink to excess.  The Scottish round system means drinking is costly and is always done to excess. The working-class man always stood his round and anyone who didn’t was excluded from the company.

So everyone who drinks has been socialised properly and anyone who doesn't it's daddy's fault.

Blame your Old man, Ricky and get a round in

I'll have a Lager

I remember Bezique, Volari and Babysham from adverts when I was a kid.

I also remember when I moved to England, and expected people to buy rounds, getting annoyed when people would sit with a small dribble of beer in their glass. Then I found out people don't buy rounds in the same way down there - people just bought their own drinks or bought in pairs. Completely different (and much better) culture IMO because it stops you guzzling 6 pints in a night. You are taking me back quite a few years here.

Why is this in e-Saints? I don’t tend to buy my alcohol online (unless you count them lazy twats who use the app in Wetherspoon to order their stuff)

Wetherspoons App. Its feckin brilliant. I've used it all over the UK and it works perfectly every time. I invest a few bob in alcohol and not just drinking it. Couldn't afford any substantial gamble in wetherspoons though at £1308 a share.

It's one of the best business models in the UK with expensive shares and cheap beer. I like a wee eggs benedict for breakfast

I'm with Slartibartfast on this one. I just love the app.

Some of my mates are the same, I just refuse to use it
