A hard border with England as a result of Scexit will ruin the Scottish economy 👎

The strange thing it'll be the same Tory politicians who were arguing there was no need for one between the Ro1 & NI, that it could all be done electronically, until they decided it was more practical to throw the DUP under a bus, who will be arguing for a hard border as part of Project Fear (Part 2) - presumably Priti Patel is already smiling at the thought of starving us out.

I'd not bank on that saving you a second time......

3 days ago, the leader of the Scexit party at Westminster, fatcat millionaire banker, Ian Blackford, describes plans for a general election just before Xmas as “bonkers”.

Today he’s calling for an election on 9th December!

He doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going!

He’s a total idiot!

You're quoting selectively  Blackford said it was "bonkers" to accept Johnson's wheeze to rush his deal through committee stage in Parliament ahead of a December GE - he was still committed to having a GE as soon as possible once the threat of a "No Deal Brexit" had been resolved and if a Brexit extension was reached. Still at least your take on the latest twist in the saga was less pathetic than the official one from the Tory Party...

Quote

'Speaking to the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, Mr Cleverly sobbed about the Lib Dem-SNP bill: saying "It's clearly a gimmick.

"Their bill moves the election date by three days, takes the withdrawal agreement completely off the table."

He said the government had put forward proposals for a general election first. :bairn

*****************************

Blackford who prefers to be called a "humble crofter" these days :P is one of my least favourite SNP politicians but his position within the party shows that middle class dudes like yourself have nothing to fear from independence. As an aside his banking CV is impressive when compared to that of our current Chancellor and ex-dealer in Junk Bonds, Said Javid - only one of them nearly brought the world's economy down!

PS - I'm disappointed you let another post go with without a dig at Alex Salmond, your venom is slipping these days Cap'n, take off the slippers and get your "dancing shoes" polished up - Independence will be settled one way or another within the next few years but will obviously be dependant on how Brexit is resolved.

And how to you work that out ? So if Brexit fails ... which will take about 3 /5 years to know you think the Gov will just let Scotland go on a 50/50 ref ? Or if it works ....Indy is dead. Either way we are stuck in the union ... be nice if the opposition could simply unite rather than a powderpuff ignite...

Brexit election: Government to 'look at options'

The Downing Street hope would be that if Johnson gave categoric assurances about a fixed election date, thus ruling out the possibility of a drift into a no-deal Brexit, the opposition parties would pledge to not table any amendments.

The party with most to lose seems to be Labour faced with the perfect storm of being skweezed in the cities by sophisticates like @antrinand fellow cross-dresser Eddie Izzard & in the rust-belts by followers of the late Keith Chegwin and mummified Joan Collins.

There will be a Trade Deal with open borders negotiated between the UK & the EU - "No Deal" is dead in the water.

If  the Scottish Electorate vote for the SNP/Green parties in sufficient numbers then I believe we will have the mandate to force a second IndyRef which could be carried out before Brexit in implemented, we can decide who we want to be aligned with - one of the 20 (from 27) EU countries with a population of less than 12 million or England which has a population 10 times that of Scotland and a history over the last 40 years of not being much bothered over how we fare - I know how I'll vote.

I don't believe opposition to Scottish Independence is as entrenched as it was 5 years ago, Labour leader JC & his Shadow Chancellor have been ambiguous on the matter, for the Tories even the soon to be departing for the sake of her family erm consultancy work Ruth Davidson  softened her stance on the issue in the latter stages of her leadership period. The Tories have just ditched Ulster, plenty of their MPs down south have indicated they'd be just as happy to ditch us, "friends of the Queen" would be much more circumspect about revealing her thoughts on the matter so I'm optimistic that a Scottish government that was looking to play a positive role in Europe could get & win a second Independence referendum.

It might not work out the way I hope but we'd be mad to stay if we get another chance to quit the UK!

Ok Bud but by your logic we should have already left the EU as 17.4 m gave a mandate.. the Gov will play a lot nastier than 2014 and Scots are to divided. Even 59 seats will not equate to 50 % votes cast due to our stupid 1st past the post

Well, in the words of what I hope will be our post-Independence National Anthem - Que Sera, Sera.

This is seriously becoming a waste of time and money- I wish Macron had his way...………...

Diane Abbot on Marr yesterday making her usual sense - ( not)

Swinton- Trying to popular at any cost- The Tories have more morals- She actually believes the EU Elections that the Liberals will challenge-

Simple- The EU tell Britain- if you don't Leave on 31st Jan- 5 year extension / unconditional- that should put the shiitters up the ERG/ Brexit Parties

Angus McNeil, a Scexiteer MP at Westminster, has attacked fatcat millionaire banker Ian Blackford’s pre Xmas general election plan (a date that the fatcat millionaire banker described as “bonkers” just last week).

He says he’ll vote against it as will other Scexiteers at Westminster.

Oh dear, it’s all going pear shaped for the Scexit extremists! 😃

The fake independence Party would like to have an election before Salmonds case comes to court in January,  as there lies a potential can of worms for the whole Party . .

Fat cat Blackford gets his orders from the Nasty leader.  .

SNP preparing to go through the lobbies at Westminster tonight, hand in hand with the Tories, to vote fur a 12th Dec election.

A date that the obese fatcat millionaire banker, Ian Blackford, described as “bonkers” last week.

And which several SNP MPs are against.

You couldn’t make it up! They don’t know if they’re coming or going.

clueless!

A bit like cowardly @cockles1987 😂

It's not a fact, DJ, iirc there's only been one election since WWII that Labour has won on the back of Scottish votes. Maybe if it had paid attention to the wishes of its supporters it wouldn't be in the state it's currently in here in Scotland.

if labour were effective and organised then what would the SNP's impact be?

If labour never win another election then the fault is entirely their own

No, what he said was "bonkers" was agreeing to a GE while there was still the prospect of BJ trying to sneak the WAB through, now that threat has now been removed 9/10/11/12 it doesn't matter much to me.

I've seen/heard MPs from all the parties apart from the Lib-Dems query the logic of having a December GE, that's politics - not everyone agrees with every policy their party support. As far as I can see no-ones resigned or been thrown out of the SNP yet.

You just make it up, you don't know if you're coming or going - clueless! :1eye

****************************

FWIW Blackford is an expert in his field who regularly pins down govt. ministers when it comes down to details, however he is not well suited to the top job which requires a more robust personality - Tommy Sheppard would've been my choice.

Even when the opposition is aligned behind him BJ can't act in a straightforward manner.

MPs vote on Creasy's amendment to business motion

MPs are now voting on Stella Creasy’s motion.

If passed, this would ensure that during the main debate on the bill MPs can propose amendments in the usual way. Under the government’s plan, only amendments from the government would be put to a vote.

Boris Johnson has lost the first vote. The Stella Creasy amendment has been passed by 312 votes to 295 - a majority of 17.

Who's the coward now?

Quote

How significant is the government defeat on the Stella Creasy amendment? (See 2.23pm.) At this point it is hard to tell. As ITV’s Robert Peston reports, government sources are saying that, if an amendment to the bill giving EU nationals the right to vote in the general election gets passed, the government will pull the bill, and the December election will not go ahead.

Quote

The Labour MP Stephen Doughty says he has tabled an amendment to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to vote.

Confirmed - Government will pull election bill if franchise extended
