For every team that struggled I can give you more that didn't.

Using a couple other shock results, which were draws, not defeats, is a poor attempt to cover up a crap performance, any way you try to paint it.

As for the match fitness, Dunfermline didn't look to slow compared to our first half performance, maybe they didn't go to Spain for a jolly?

I'm really confused why you bother ? Oh wait you dont go to games. You get a hard on from the forum. I get guy's & girls that go to games being critical. Was not happy with the first half performance none of us were. Clearly harsh words by Goodwin were spoken as such we seen a reaction. Your no St Mirren fan get ta f**k your stroller going by history your a Dundee United fan go bore and troll there fans.

Yep, Gus MacPherson starting to look like a waste of a wage. The problems with the team should be blindingly obvious from last year.

Not blaming Gus personally but obviously all the turmoil with Kearney influenced Muzek's decision to sign elsewhere. Certainly didn't help with Popescu either. If the Director position is still resulting in us going in to the season prepared like today then what is the point really?

The continuity chat was blatantly one big cover up.

One would assume the long and short of it is he knows Gordon Scott from their time at the club. Which got me thinking... did GS not resign the very day Gus was punted... just saying

There's a reason he hasn't managed a club of greater stature than QoS (who he relegated) since 2010.

I would think that after the club put out a statement saying Popescu was about to sign and then asked for too much cash at the last minute and moved the goalposts on SMFC that there will be around zero chance of him signing for us now.

Mainly because to say in a club statement that the player got greedy hardly endears the club to the player if we do try and go back for him!

(Good to know the transfer fee wasn't an issue for a GLS-fuelled St Mirren though).

I think that the suggestion was that club moved the goalposts and not the player as it was another loan deal but with added options and clauses.

We covered Popescu's entire wage last season when he was on loan. There's no real negotiating to be done by a player in that situation, for example he couldn't demand 2 grand a week to come here on loan if his current contract says Dinamo pay him a grand a week.

Different scenario if it's a permanent deal but it wasn't, so I don't see how he could do anything worthy of blame. He gets full reimbursement of his contract regardless of who by and representatives can't negotiate a higher wage than he's on at his parent club.

Aye, who would post  this positive view............. (From P&B by the famous demented zebra. :1eye)

As the team stand at the moment we are relegation certainties. Only quality signings will help. Goodwin has a huge job on his hands. Stevie McGinn looks finished sadly way way off the mark. If we had played a half decent premiership team today it would have been double figures. Utter crap that's the bottom line.

Jim must have considered coming on himself 1st half. He did say pre match we lacked pace for me we lack a leader on the pitch. Pars had that in Paton. Some players still at club hid when Stubbs took over and they did it again yesterday. Simple Goody.... to start sign a Goody mark 2...

Deep within the bowels of yet another barely literate post from you, I spotted this beauty.

Are you forgetting that at half time you posted that you hoped we would lose another 2 goals in the second half?

Was not at the game and didn't watch in BT either, but sounds like Erhahon got a roasting at LB.
However, I do not understand why he gets such a hard time on here for poor performances at LB when he is clearly being played out of position. That is the managers fault, and hopefully one mistake he does not repeat.

Now that the dust has settled, and certain posters are trying to "re-imagine" how they slated the team (and some of em' have the cheek to accuse good 'ol LPM of being anti saints). My thoughts are, having let that overall team performance sink in that excepting Hladky (ironic as he could be Offldky) those players on the pitch did not look like they were worried for their place!

they went into that game knowing there was little to no chance of even being subbed, let alone dropped. And it showed in a half-hearted, lazy, last to the loose ball performance.

have some of them already fallen out with the new manager again??? Are we going to see another attempt at  pet-lipped "Player Power" sniping in the media that saw Stubbs sacked by a clueless board?

the bottom line for me is, like last season's team that came up from the championship, the players on the books currently are not good enough to compete in the premiership!

We showed a bit more resilience when Hodson, Anton, Hammill & Jackson joined, We only became competitive after January with the likes of Dreyer, Muzek, Popescu, Corbu and McAllister. Thats NINE players that would, if still here, been joined by Hladky and one other on the pitch yesterday!

Thats the size of the task facing Goody now. The board have f**ked up again royally, and the chairman seems to be blaming everyone but himself for not dealing with (when he himself said it should have been dealt with) Oran the day after the play off final, one way or another.... That's what you call leadership..!

credit to the pars, they had TEN new players in, realising their old guard had their day and released them in May. Even with a Technical Director who were told was employed to ensure the very piss poor situation we are in being unable to field a competitive team wouldnt happen.... we are absolutely shot to f**k for fielding a competitive team. Remember NINE of yesterday's team wouldnt have got a game last season.

I have laughed out loud in sheer frustration each time the "S" (stability) word has been used since May regarding SMFC. If anyone tuned into BT sport yesterday it was obvious that its become a running joke with pundits and the Scottish football scene when they talk of SMFC. This board and Chairman are on their FIFTH manager in less than three years ffs! They have shown themselves to be incapable of establishing the framework at the club to build stability upon!

I actually don't blame the players, I blame their employer for either signing someone obviously not fit for purpose, or completely avoiding dealing with employees that are not performing to the level required. Then using all that as an excuse to sign cheap again.... thus repeating the same mistake over and over again.

As a performance specialist in business and recruitment I had a good laugh when the "MoneyBall" approach to recruiting was brought up. I mean on the face of it it is sound business sense, at least the way its meant to be interpreted that being....

you only recruit players whose value will increase benefitting club performance and success as well as adding value via a sell on at profit opportunity. Thing is though, you have to deal with your current under performing players first, or you risk losing more than you gain as they arent adding value, in fact they detract value from your moneyball recruits. ( Haldky is a good example yesterday, had a good game, but his stats put him losing three goals in his first competitive game of the season).

The board either need to go, or hand over responsibility of what players and manager join or stay at the club to someone/s who will do the full job, and take full responsibility for doing it! We need someone to manage performance across the board, and if someone isnt adding value they go! Not into the reserves wasting time, space as well as money! They go out the door, we stop moving problems from one area to another!

anyone think the shower in the boardroom are capable of the above?

Some of the posts make sense to me, I have to say. Some don't. I guess that's likely on the forum. We have opinions, express them and others either ignore or react, not necessarily in agreement.

All clearly felt, as I did, extremely disappointed in the first half showing that led to our eventual loss. Most (all) feel that Ernahon was being played out of position. I agree. He was also, like big Gary left exposed when passes went to opposition players in midfield and these were not tracked back.

The good bits surely - both of our strikers score. Magennis, who had been anonymous until then, stepped up his game when given the armband by McGinn as he left the pitch.

Wasn't there yesterday but it seems that some well known weaknesses (which I have witnessed) were exposed again....

Erhahon - not a LB.

Mackenzie - legs gone, got the experience but needs to be surrounded by players with pace.

McGinn S - see Mackenzie but to a lesser extent, maybe needs the responsibility of captaincy removed, perhaps it's fortunate that JGs spell as a player didn't overlap with either of SMs..

*******************

Disappointing as yesterday was I'm hoping that the current squad can deal with the minnows (famous last words?) of our LC section.

Of more concern is the amount of time it often takes to bed in new players (4-6 weeks for JR & OK) which might see a whole lotta love knickerwetting at the start of the league season.

As I've said elsewhere - never a dull moment supporting Saints.

I did post, at the end of last season, that our defence is not SPL standard. Once again, if you think, Mcginn, Baird, McKenzie, are, emoji848.png

Paul McGinn is, nobody else across yesterday back 4 is though. Dunfermline knew that and put every counter attack down our left and told their strikers just to run straight at MacKenzie and Baird.

Hard to disagree with you. Too many of yesterdays team need to go. We cannot go into a season with this side. As you say the buck stops with the club. Did Oran see how fruitless his task would be? Goodwin has a tough ask and he will need to be ruthless in his approach. Our captain is no longer at this level and the rest baring 3 or 4 are lucky to be at this level.

Mack wasn’t helped out by having Ethan at LB. As you say, the legs are gone, but given the right support he can still have a good season (much like Bairdy improved last season when Anton came in). Having an actual left back will do Mack a big favour, it hampered him yesterday and I imagine if Bairdy had been at LCB it would have been the same outcome.

I refuse to criticise Ethan though, he’s being hung out to dry. It’s not his natural position, he’s a young lad being thrust into an uncomfortable situation. Get the boy on loan to the Championship and get him playing every week in his preferred position.

Good  teams have four or five players who can be identified as Captains , we are struggling to find one . Goody was at fault yesterday for setting up the team in such a way that allowed our midfield to be over run and our left back to be over exposed . We badly need a centre half , left back , left winger and a striker .

We are never in a million years going to get away with Baird and McKenzie in a flat back four , they are simply not quick enough or good enough . The time for trialists is past as well , JG needs to identify his targets and get them in asap , with support from the BOD. Otherwise , it'll be another season of watching through the fingers !

Agree with that.

Mac cannot play in a back four, especially with Ethan as his closest full back. The first two goals were from picking that gap between the two.

Actually though we moved the ball ok in the early stages and were seeing far more movement than last season. However, I may have been seeing things in hope, rather than reality!
