D Day 75 Years On

Across from my shop is the memorial for locals who fought and died in the war. There are veterans with medals and flags there paying respect.  At a table by our window are two Germans having breakfast looking onto the service. The German woman stood up with her hands on her hips looking at the service does not look too happy.

Special day.

Unimaginable what the soldiers faced on that day.

Thanks.

Listening to some of the stories on BBC 5live now.

Very very sad and emotional

Horrors of war.

Unsure why she wouldn't be happy, lots of Germans lost their lives in the same war?

So this German woman ... after she put her hands on her hips , did she take a jump to the left then a step to the right ?

In out in out then spin it all around. They were very nice this is their second year in holiday here remember them from last year. It was just a sureal moment. They asked all about the service and was it a local regiment.

ONE FOR TODAY:

Darkened faces, guns, ropes and knives
The airborne troopers would risk their lives
To help those brave young men at sea,
To survive the beaching in Normandy.
And a job they did, and did so well,
Giving Hitler’s troopers bloody hell.
The turning point, in a world war,
Giving the German’s a great, “What’s for”.
Still lots to do to, but those brave souls,
Eventually achieved their goals.
And to tell the aeroplanes apart,
The powers that be designed some art.
And just as today those in the right,
Had emblazoned stripes of black and white

Guest TPAFKATS

Interesting programme on bbc4 earlier about the spies and double agents who spread the stories convincing the nazis that the allies would attack across the straits of Dover.
I knew this had happened but the detail and extent of it was fascinating.

Also read this earlier about a famous (in his day) War correspondent.
