Chris Froome Breaks Leg

Recommended Posts

Froome has broken his leg just prior to the start of Stage 4 of the Criterium du Dauphine.

The race, important in it's own right, is considered a general indicator of who is in form in the run up to the Tour De France and Froome was looking good going into today's Time Trial a discipline he specialises in.

Can he not just take a couple of pills and he'll be alright.

He's broken a lot more than just his leg.

Currently in intensive care having crashed into a wall at about 35 mph.

It appears that he ran into the wall while trying to blow his nose. Why would any experienced cyclist try to blow his nose while travelling at 35 mph?

Report on the Radio yesterday said he was on a training ride earlier in the day with a team mate who watched him take his hands of the handlebars and warned him to stop taking chances . Silly boy for not heeding that advice..

Aye, there's a video clip showing this incident.

He can't be that good, I could do a lap around Andrew Street/Albion Street with no hands no bother.

Most of the pros could ride at that speed without holding the handlebars for a wee while anyway. The problem seems to have been the wind.
Taking both hands off to blow his nose does seem rather daft though - if it's not the wind it would've been a pothole, camber, etc.

I don't think it's clear that both hands were off the bars , most of these guys will blow their nose with one hand . The time trial bikes do have narrower bars and the deep section rims on the wheels can be dangerous in a crosswind,  which sounds like probable cause.

With 6 Grand Tour wins under his belt l don't think the guy is daft , but he has been unfortunate.

Looks like Froome will be awarded the 2011 Vuelta (when he finished second) after winner JJ Cobo's results from 2009-2011 have been expunged due to a doping violation based on his "biological passport data".
