Stopped Sevco scoring from open play, his the woodwork, decent penalty shout and a sitter missed. Nothing but positivity from yesterday’s game.

They(sevco) have lost 1 game in nearly 20 in all competitions. Time some supporters had a reality check.

3pts and conceding 2 goals from our 3 difficult opening fixtures is a good start and something to build upon.

My take is that it was a game of big positives and big negatives.

The obvious positive was how well drilled in the defensive area we were. It was such a refreshing change to see that in comparison to the shambles of recent times. The fact that the (comfortably) second best team in the country could only score against us with a free kick, has to be a positive. Also in Hladky we have such a prize asset and I pray we can hold onto him through the next few days. Every aspect of his game is superb but his distribution is unbelievable.

As for the negatives, for me it wasn’t so much attacking intent that was the problem. I just think when we had the opportunities to break, we executed poorly. We gave the ball away too cheaply and not always through just hoofing it up the park as has been suggested. Rangers pressed us in midfield the way we should’ve been pressing them and for the most part we couldn’t handle it. That part of our game must improve, but I remain quietly confident that we are improved and will do much better against lesser teams. As FS said, we have games coming up that will give us a much clearer picture of where we are.

Rangers were much better than us yesterday. That’s the top and bottom of it.

I would broadly agree.  When we broke, there was little pace on offer and some players were trapping a ball further than I could kick it.  So it won't be long before most of the other clubs suss that we are happy to sit deep and still lack a credible scoring threat.

It's really hard to see where goals will come from

Having just watched the highlights, still not convinced it was a pen and really didn't see any major errors by the ref and lineman. I must also say that the noise the away support gave, must have been the loudest i have ever witness at home. Both goalkeepers ears must have been ringing at the end.

Absolutely & they’ve given a few teams a fair tanning already this season.

Goodwin's tactics for me were spot on in our first three games. Who would have thought we would be sitting with 3 points and 2 goals against.  Goodwin has said our games with rivals will be completely different from our perspective in other words attacking.

For most of last season we were so dire in defence that we were well beaten before the half time whistle.
Three league games into this season, all of them fixtures against big clubs, and our defence still hasn't conceded a goal before half time.
We are definitely heading in the right direction under Jim Goodwin.

Stop taking positives from the games & seeing it for what it is, some don’t like it & forget we are St Mirren.

No doubt Rangers were the better team yesterday and deserved their win. However it really is fine margins ...... a cross that hit the bar with McGregor nowhere, a stick on pen not given and a sitter missed towards the end. Had any one of them gone in our favour, who knows. We are a far more organised unit under Goody and think that augers well for the season ahead.

If tactics were spot on we would have won the three games!

Silly question, but were you at any of the games or even watch them on TV?

We had chances to take at least two more points from these games. I don't think we were that close last season.

Further, we have strengthened the squad on a game to game basis despite losing access to S McGinn and Cody Cooke through injury.

The tactics have been fine. More of the same plus a little more up front and the season's challenges will be one's that we can look forward to.

Why are people still going on about the penalty decision? Dare has even referred to it as “stick on”.

It wasn’t a penalty. Obika accidentally clipped the heels of the defender and as he fell, he brought Obika down. The ref got the decision spot on.

I agree that on a lucky day it might have been given, but that doesn’t make it a penalty. And those lucky days rarely if ever come against the OF.

3 of the 4 penalties at Ibrox last season were far less of a penalty than Obika's appeal on Sunday.

They weren’t “less of a penalty”. None of them were penalties. I’m not sure i get your point. Because Dallas made errors, Clancy should’ve made up for it yesterday? Is that what you’re saying?

I'd say Sunday's was 50/50 , seen them given many times. Dallas just cheated us.

First foul was committed by Obika so it’s not a pen wether you have seen penalties given for players being pulled down means nothing because the first foul there was committed by us.

Same as the free kick rangers scored should have been given to us as the first foul there was committed by Defoe.
