Turnover of Managers...

Recommended Posts

St Mirren... an affliction of the heart and mind!

What other excuse is there?

Our managerial turnover record is horror reading!

For the seventh year in a row we have a new manager taking pre-season!

In fact. Since we moved to the new ground ten years ago we have started 11 campaigns and have had 9 different managers.

Only Danny Lennon has been In Charge for more than a single pre-season.... Yet he was deemed "not good enough to take us to the next level"!

Damn that National trophy win and highest league finish in decades!

2009 Gus MacPherson

2010-13 Danny Lennon

2014 Tommy Craig

2015 Ian Murray

2016 Alex Rae

2017 Jack Ross

2018 Alan Stubbs / Oran Kearney

2019 Jim Goodwin

Excellent post.

We certainly need stability and arguably had that with Danny Lennon. Let's hope we (board and fans) have learned that and we stick with Jim Goodwin.

Stability.....ffs!

this board are on their fifth manager in three years.. yes THREE years and FIVE managers. We will only get stability when the common denominator is removed!

This is the most sickening part. Gus had done a great job of establishing us as a Premier club (keeping in mind how dire we were when he took over, we made substantial progress under Gus). Danny, after a very shaky opening season where a shite Accies team kept us up, would go on to take us further than Gus with the 8th placed finish and a first major trophy in 26 years, not to mention being the only Saints manager to bring home the League Cup.

The season we refused to renew his contract was the year Sevco 2012, Hearts and Hibs were all out of the league - there was no better time to challenge for the Top 6, Europe and further success in the Cups. Three of Scotland’s five biggest clubs weakened. Stability would have been key, and Danny had done more than enough to earn a new contract.

Instead we hired that fud Tommy Craig. Having been born near Charleroi, and having them as my 2nd team, I’d seen the abomination and atrocities he committed in “managing” RCSC. His only managerial job was a total, complete disaster, so who the hell actually thought “Yeah, he’s the man to take us forward! Bye Danny!” I knew there and then relegation was certain, in the one season we had a better chance than ever of going for a great year.

Lennon did nothing to deserve being told he was free to go. One of the worst decisions we’ve made in recent years (and we hired Alan Stubbs ffs).

Yep, it's been done to death over the years but it'll never not be sickening.

The single biggest mistake of the past 20 years - one we still haven't recovered from and probably won't until we get a decent injection of cash or unearth 3 or 4 very good players.

Easy to blame the board, they were well and truly duped by Tommy, but the senior players and a large percentage of moronic fans also played their unsavoury part in it. As a club I think it's fair to say we got too big for our boots - we were on a slow but steady upward trend and Danny would've got us Top 6 sooner or later... we had no divine right for immediate success and so it proved. We have reaped what we sow.
