Time will tell, if you classify the dundee game last season as a 'smash & grab'... then how do you classify having HALF the possession Aberdeen had yesterday? I hope we are/become hard to beat in most games, but we will only know that when we play those games!

it would put alot of undue pressure on Goody and the team if we were to now expect them to beat everyone from Aberdeen down in the league table. There will be crushing lows as well as hopefully many highs? We just need to be realistic in our expectations, and keep things ticking along on an even a keel as possible. That will build stability, solidity and results.

We were happy to let the Aberdeen centre backs have possession yesterday - seemed a deliberate tactic to defend that way so possession stats mean very little in that circumstance. Arguably we had the better chances in the game despite the possession inequality. McKenna's distribution for a guy they are demanding millions for is shocking !

That's the nature of the modern game in a nutshell.

Aberdeen didn't seem to make much with their possession - apart from toward the end of the game when they were pushing forward for the equaliser. I think we were far more effective with our possession and created the better chances. For all their possession they spent a lot of their time pushing the ball about ineffectively. We look solid and composed for the the most part. We do need to sharpen up when we create these chances though - we could have been out of sight by half time and Aberdeen could not have complained.

Anyway - we agree that we need to wait and see and that nothing has been proved - I'm just more optimistic that what we have now is significantly better than what we had this time last year.

On another day it could so easily have been a draw, or a crushing late loss from a winning position. Aberdeen hit the post, Hladky had to tip one over the bar, and they probably should have got a penalty. Yes they didnt make their possession pay... but we were as lucky with that win, as were last season against Dundee first game.

the difference this time around is we appear to have a group of better quality players in for most of the season, wheras last year we were full of inexperience, and players without.. recent minutes on the pitch.

There were considerable differences between the games, we could have been 3-0 up by half time with two very good and open chances. Dundee missed a penalty & our goal came from a keeper falling on his arse. If you genuinely don't see any noted difference between the two games & the level of Aberdeen vs last seasons Dundee it sums up your go to negative stance.

No one will expect us to 'beat everyone from Aberdeen down' he isn't suggesting that in the slightest.

We missed a free header from five yards out, had three occasions in the second half where it was practically three on two, the overhead kick he probably had time to compose himself and turn. No mention of 'on another day we could have been out of sight' though?

Don't let a balanced view get in the way of your need to be negative about almost all things SMFC.

Good to see your point on the better quality players though, well done to Gus and the other recruitment involved staff for their hard work. Praise needing to go to GLS as well for his long-term vision getting these players in on longer deals.

Just in case anyone who is in the position of knowing so little about football that they can't work out how much better a position we are compared to last season.

We also have a manager who quite clearly knows what he is doing and has a huge amount of passion for the club. 😊

Yes , I think it will be a recurring feature this season as we attempt to suck teams in and hit them on the break !

Like that!

Do we currently have a number 12?

If not, would be good to dedicate the number 12 jersey to our fans. Last few seasons our support (from all around the ground) has been exceptional. Well worth doing

You are absolutely seething that you have nothing to moan about this week.

Are you so tactically clueless that you think Aberdeen having more possession matters in the slightest?

Cheer up and enjoy the win ffs.

Not just us.

I was speaking to a supporter of Hamilton and he said that's exactly what they did to Killie on Saturday.

And this is your best contribution to a Match Winning thread? Attacking saints fans, trying to set them against each other?

you seriously need to find a life pal, because the bitterness you reapeat time after time on here is frankly quite embarrassing for you! Tell you what why not meet up as two human beings over a pint, and you can spill your hate in person? I'll even buy the First one.

Have you extended this most tempting offer to Gordon Scott?

Ball was going over the bar by at least a foot if not more and our superstar goalie tipped it over anyway he even saves ones that aren't going in,  just like he stopped the deflection going out for a corner, a fantastic save in those conditions what a cult hero he is becoming,  On another day we could have won 3-0.  we made all the best chances in the game, Aberdeen had one half chance late on when McGinn hit the OUTSIDE OF THE POST denying Vaclav another save the hopeless twat :)

Don’t think it’s been mentioned but Goody’s decision to give Magennis the armband rather than Paul McGinn is a master stroke. McGinns a leader regardless but giving Magennis the captaincy means he knows himself that his standards can’t slip and he needs to maintain the level that we know he’s capable of. Right wing, left wing and central mid yesterday. Outstanding performance from him yesterday. Expecting a big season from him now.

If you're going on ifs, buts and maybes, you should count the number of clear cut opportunities we had to put the game to bed before Aberdeen had any chances.
