Managers cant look at bigger pictures as so often their tenures are so short.. 3 defeats in a row and your toast or 1 in Watfords case...even Fitzy dropped us for the mighty Bristol City before coming back just like McGarvey.. its the prob all smaller clubs have.. take the money and spend wisely.. just hope if Jim goes he doesnt take our defence with him

It would take a decent fee to get any of our defenders as all contracted to summer 23 with the exception of tanser and mccarthy. Tanser has extra year option.

I don't buy all these statements i'm reading.. No Brainer, treble his wages, bigger budget,  the job centre is full of successful ambitious  ex Managers who have took that route, most lasting no more than a year at their new big club,  how did did it work out for Jack Ross, or Alan Stubbs who left Hibs a week after winning the holy grail for them. or Frank Lampard

Very few Managers have success at more than one club only the elite do, no brainer I don't think so,

What is success for Aberdeen finishing 3rd getting to Cup finals a European place ? Derek McInnes got sacked for achieving that.

Our last 3 managers have been successful and there's a good reason for that they've had a ambitious board behind them who want success too. we really don't need this crap, it need's to be sorted one way or the other and right now, 4th place is a possible finish for us so the club and Jim should tell them to Fuk off  but if he want's to speak to them let him go the last thing we need is a manager who wants to leave

As you are probably aware mate, we share the same view on lots of topics on this board.

However, I’m not with you on this occasion.

I don’t think JR will have regretted leaving us for one second.

He went to Sunderland, no doubt earned a good few bob, his punting from there clearly did him no harm and he got another job pretty quickly with Hibs (still a bigger club than us) and I’m willing to bet that even after being punted (unfairly) from there, it won’t be long before he’s back in another decent gig. Absolutely no harm done whatsoever.
The alternative was to have stayed with us, most likely had a similar season (we finished second bottom), his star would have fallen and he wouldn’t have made all the cash he’s made from Sunderland and Hibs.

I suppose it just goes to show that success on the pitch and personal success don’t always need to go hand in hand.

An alternative view. No problem with that but the life of a player or manager is for most peppered with ups and downs. It is about the money whether we fans like it or not. Getting the boot after moving to a better paid football job means a bigger payment than getting the boot at the one you left as well as having had a much higher salary in the meantime. Now both Alex Ferguson and Jim McLean turned down Rangers when they approached them and still went on to be successful in very different ways. If Jim goes…good luck to him and thanks for the memories as a player and manager. JR had an even bigger gain on moving to Sunderland and then picked up the Hibs Job. Not too shabby.

You contradict your point by highlighting McInnes as he got sacked for exactly NOT doing what you mentioned in the first paragraph. He stuck around too long until it got stale then got sacked as he couldn't take them any further.

There are ups and downs in every managers career, whether they stay where they are or take new jobs. There is no way for managers to avoid volatility and uncertainty, Its part of the job.

Wasn't really what I meant mate.. I don't think he regrets taking the Sunderland job for a second in financial terms or for the experience of managing a big football club. certainly way much bigger than Aberdeen But was it a success in football terms.. I'm pretty sure he regrets how it turned out at Sunderland the same can be said of his time at Hibs.. it's probably cost him his life long ambition of managing Scotland

Maybe me being very much of a socialist persuasion money isn't the be all and end all of everything...  One of Scotland's greatest manager's of all time Jim McLean spent 22 years as manager of Dundee United...  he could have took the Rangers job the Newcastle job and many more and made a fortune but stayed with United... he was a socialist too I believe from a mining village... He will go down as legend of Scottish Football that's worth a lot more than a few bob in the bank...

My first thoughts too.
Remember talking to John Nelms at a prize giving for my son’s footie team. It was when Dundee were being linked with Ross when he was with us. He let slip that he’d been talking with Ross (who was on his hols at the time). He was denying it in the press. He was a big fan of Ross and said he would love him at Dundee at some point. The plot thickens…

I’m not sure that Jack Ross would come back to us if he had other offers to be honest. I would take him even though he did Flaff about in making his decision leaving us with little chance at having a decent transfer window.

Or Mackay from Ross County? Or Derek Adams?
There was no urgency on those two though, seems too much of a coincidence that we could possibly be linked with a move for Ross if Goodwin goes and McPake is bulleted after two good results.
