The only time I have been in Stamford Bridge was in Sept 1978 when I was on a work trip to London.

The match was Chelsea v New York Cosmos.

New York had some decent players.  Yashin , Beckenbauer and Cruyff!! Carlos Alberto was unfit to play for them unfortunately.

However, the thing that I remember most was that the match was sponsored by Brut aftershave. On the way in we were all handed a little sachet with one of those impregnated wipes. I guess most people opened them at half time and the smell was overpowering.

I stayed in Earls Court for a year.

…even from there, I was a regular at Arsenal, but…

….just down the road was Charlie Cooke…  great to watch… in full flow…

I also was a spectator at the monstrous invasion of a couple of hundred bigots when Chelsea beat the real Rangers in a meaningless friendly…

I was down in London for work quite a lot in the 70s and 80s.

I usually stayed in hotels around Kensington High St and used to go to see Arsenal midweek as it was easy to get to Highbury from there on the Underground.

I once saw Tony Fitz playing there for Bristol City.
